- SECOND SECTION The Coquille Valley Sentinel SECOND SECTION I FAG* MINI Fishing In Utah By Lans Leneve ) Following are extracts from a let ter writton to the Coos Bay Harbor by Lans Leneve who to now con nected with a sporstman’s magazine and located at Ogden, Utah: Thought I let you know that I am still on the map, although dam near melted off it. The Weather has been a scorcher here for the past two months, not only during the days but the nights as well. We have slept with nothing but a sheet over us for weeks, and that really to too much covering. Sure makes us long for Coos county’s nice climate. We have had so many fish we are tired of them and so are all the neighbors, as we have given away dozens and dozens of them. Once we hit the Utah system, it hasn’t taken us long to make some real catches. One trip, one day’s fish ing, my wife and I brought in 42. The weight of the catch was 54 pounds. I carried them half a mile on my back through the broiling sun, and believe me I thought they weighed three times that much by the time we reached the car. You sure get some big trout here., Last week a 14 year old boy caught the world’s largest brown trout (that to, the largest trout on record). It weighed 36 pounds and 12 ounces. There are all sorts of fish here, eastern and brook trout, chub, her ring, catfish and suckers. There are lots of deer in this state. Last season, a 10-day season, there were 15,000 deer killed. And there are more ducks here than most any place in the United States. Also lots of Chinese pheasants. But take it from me. there to a fisherman for every fish, a hunter for every deer and a hunter for every duck, judging from what I have seen and heard. , I was on the air the other evening with some of my dog stories, broad casting from the city park here. I have made some mighty fine friends here and get frequent invi tations to go on fishing trips. One trip was over into Wyoming and we fished in a beautiful lake surrounded by snow-clad peaks. Made a wonder ful catch in that lake. I like this country, If it wasn’t for the heat; but at that I would not trade old Coos for half this state. My wife even goes farther than that and aays she wouldn't trade one acre of Coos for ALL of this state. But we must take things in this life as we find them and we can’t always do the things that we wish and like best, or live where we pre fer. And the best frineds we acquire in this life are usually the ones that we see the least of. You should have tried to see Cobb go by in his Red Lion. That’s all you could do, to try and see him. It was « case uf "here he comes there he goes." Just a blue streak passing and barely discernible against the whiteness of the salt flats. LANS LENEVE. 500 Antlerless Deer Permits To Be Issued For One District The state game commission at its meeting in July ordered the sale of 3P0 special permits to take antlerless deer during the regular open season for buck deer, September 20 to Octo ber 25, in the area immediately ad jacent to the Mule Deer game reserve in Klamath and Lake counties.
