PAGE TWELVE Phosphate Program Popular One carload including 30 tons of triple super-phosphate was distri buted among 42 farmers in Coos county last week as a grant of aid to those co-operating in the 1939 agri cultural conservation program, ac cording tn W. E. Cross, president of "on. the loca of distribution, the ,. Under . fertilizer is io ire used on soil con serving crops such as alfalfa, clover and perennial grasses. Payment will be deducted from benefits due at the end of 1939, it was stated. The local association was able to furnish in the one car which was allotted to this county, only about one-third of the fertilizer requested under this plan by members of the county association. i committeemen, that many farmers are anxious to increase the value of their land and crops produced by the ■ use of fertilizers, but may not be able to buy the necessary materials. The response to this phosphate pro- gram was much greater than had been anticipated throughout the 21 counties where the distribution took place, according to N. C. Donaldson, state executive officer. Some farm ers were unable to get as much as they wanted, and many did not get any in this county. This distribution through the Conservation association seems to have stimulated the demand for phosphate and undoubtedly will result in increased sales by Oregon dealers.
