    Townsend Chib
Coquille Towraend Club No 1 en
joyed another social night. Tuesday
evening at their headquarters In the j
Community Building.
After a short business srssion, a
fine program followed, which had.
been arranged under the able direc- r
tion of Ray Peart, chairman of the ,
program committee. Following the
program dancing was enjoyed until
a late hpur.
Dr. Townsend’s recent visit to Co- i,
quille seems to have added even I
greater pep and zeal to the loca^club I
and they are really going places.
The drive for membership in which
two teams are participating—one a
ladies’ team and the other being con
ducted by the male members of the
club has waxed into a desperate
struggle and a mighty close finish is
expected. At the end of the drive a
big clam feed is promised—the clams
to be furnished by the losers. The
men are chickling at thoughts of the |
women going on a clam digging ex-Il

Many members of the local club I
are somewhat chagrined over the re- I
port of several newspapers that the
attendance on the evening that Dr. I
Townsend spoke at the Community
Building was 1200.
Twenty-two
hundred would come a lot closer toll
the actual number, according to the I
writer’s check-up and those who I
made an attempt at an actual count. I1

Building will not hold anywhere near
2200. When the bleachers were put
in the capacity of the building was
figured at 1500 or 1600. During one
Com Show the building was .com
pletely jammed, hundreds more than
the night D. Townsend spoke and
there were only 1500 to 1600 there.
The Sentinel used the estimated 1200
present from an actual count of rows
and tiers and the number on each.
