were broken. Dr. Dean Crowell am­
putated his leg, just above the knee,
on June 24. .Nearly half the blood in
his body was lost as a result of the
accident and his father, Geo. Phillips,
of Oakland, Ore., furnished blood for
a transfusion both before and after
the operation. The doctor said it
was only his splendid physical con­
dition that enable the young man to
survive the ordeal and the acicdent.

Donald Phillipa, 34, of Fairview,
who has been *in Keizer Hospital at
North Bend since June IS when he
was hit by a falling snag at the
Counts camp near Empire, is on the
way to recovery now. He is a faller
and saw the snag coining toward him.
He turned from it but the timber hit
him so severe a blow without break­
ing the skin or a bone, that the blood
between his knee and hip

Young Democrats Meet
There were nearly 75 present at
the Young Democrats meeting in
Myrtle Point on Monday evening,
with every town in the county, as
well as Curry county, represented.
After the dinner in Hamm’s Cafe it
was necessary to adjourn to a hall
so that all in attendance could find
seats.
Various comlmttees were chosen,
one to act in regard to the proposed
visit of President Roosevelt to points
along the Oregon Coast highway, and
the other to serve as a general com­
mittee to arrange for the coming
state convention to be held In Coos
county.
Representative J. H. McCloskey’s
campaign manager. Mayor Tedaen of
Norway, spoke in regard to the com­
ing campaign, enumerating many
reasons why McCloskey should be re­
elected on a basis of service to Coos
county, his past record and the many
friends he has made during his past
terms in the legislature.
Thia was
seconded by all persons, including
some republican visitors.
It was decided that the next meet­
ing would be in the; form of a picnic
at the Norway grove, to which ev­
eryone will be Invited.
Townsend Cub Notes
The Coquille Townsend Club met
Tuesday evening with Orvin Oant
presiding. The orchestra played sev­
eral numbers which the club mem­
bers enjoyed very much.
The advisory board met Wednes­
day to nominate a chairman for each
standing committee and the election
of chairmen will take place next
Tuesday evening.
The club is planning to go to Bandon
to meet with the Townsend club
there on July 23 and all those wish­
ing to go should be at the meeting
next Tuesday when plana are com­
pleted for transportation.
Next Tuesday’s meeting will be a
very important one and all Town­
send members and friends are urged
to be present.
