Wa •i ■,* ■ « .A lt 8 1 u The Coquille •V *’."k I « HOME M — Spare Tire and Oil Can From Mayor F. E. Drane’s Car In the River 9 i • „ -1 The only clue in the mysterious disappearance of Mayor F. Elmore Drane, of Bandon, which occurred at seven o’clock Monday evening, was the picking up of a spare tire from his car last evening on the south side -------- the river bank near the Coast Guard boathouse, below the Gallier An oil can was also found Hotel, about 100 yards lower down the river. Both articles were positively iden tified by Recorder W. A. LeGore, of Bandon, as having been on Mr. Drane's car. But with the ebb and flow of the tide for three full days there to no way of telling where the car went into the river, as it now seems certain it did. The river at Bandon dragged for the past two days, but state police officers do not believe the car could have been driven off the dock unless it was travelling at a speed of 40 miles or more per hour A slower speed would have caused the housing underneath the car to have left marks on the dock’s edge. The last one to talk to Mr. Drane was a man named Myron Shannon who bought some twine from him at 6:15 o'clock. The Western World yesterday tells as follows of the time anyone 1s supposed to have seen him: Congressman Mott Coating C. of C. Election, Nov, 12 Hon. Jas. W. Mott, congressman from this district, ha« written J. E. Norton, president of the Chamber of Commerce, that he will be here on Friday, Nov. 22, and will speak at a noon luncheon in the hotel if one c^n be arranged. Mr. Nortpn has notifed him that arrangements have been made. It is, of course, a meeting open to every one, and yesterday noon the Lions Club voted to hold the weekly session that week on Friday noon, instead of on Thursday. The annual meeting and election of officers of the Coquille Chamber of Commerce will be held at the hotel next Tuesday evening, Nov. 12, at a 6:30 dinner. The nominating committee has submitted the following names as candidates for the election: For president—J. E. Norton. For vice president—J. P. Beyers and Don Gillespie. For treasurer—R. L. Stewart and Elbert Schroeder. For directors—J. E. Axtell, Wm. Barrow, Lafe Compton, Drue Cun ningham, F. 8, Emery, W, H. Fortier. J. A Fitzpatrick. C. W. Gano, Dr. V. L. Hamilton, L. H. Hazard. Geo.
