——- - _ Comblnations of errorless playing, hard hitting'in the pinches, heads up base running, and six-hit pitching wot Sunday's ball game for the Co quille Loggers from the Eugene Atlas teara. The locals went right to work in taking this fray by a 14 to 2 score. The Loggers landed on Mope Rus sel, Eugene righthander, for five runs in the opening frame. Bud Dun can was walked. He advanced to second on GuptiU’s secrifice bunt, to thiid on Stewart’s fielders’ choice grounder, and then scored on a double steal executed by himself and Stewart. This commenced the parade which saw Stewart score on Hal Sowers’ single and Kolstad and Sowers regis ter when Mel Duncan homed. The quintet of tallies proved to be more than enough to win the ball game, but the Loggers belted away to hang up counters in all innings but the third. Triples, one each by Stewart and Kolstad, and - a four-base blow by ‘ Cocky’’ Brewer produced the ad ditional heavy punch off both Russell and his successor, “Lefty” Cody. Eugene was kept at bay by Brewer, Logger hurler. He worked efficient ly in winning his second start, keep ing the six hits against him ,well scattered. A hit batter and a v/alk combined with two singles to produce the two scores for the Atlas outfit in the fourth. After this only two men passed first base. Coughlan and tFlscher hit for Guptill, fifth, iifehaer ran for Roper, sixth. Coquille 5 2 0 3 1 1 1 1 14 Hits 3 10 2 12 11 «—H Eugene 000200000 0— 2 Hits 001200210—6 Summary—Earned runs, Coquille 12.
