Arago Bows to Power* 17-28, Feb.* 1
If noise is any indication of satis-
(action, the basket ball fans who
watched the two games between the
Powers and Arago high schools in the
Arago gymnasium Friday night got
their money’s worth.
The game between the first* team*
started with a tip-of from Cornwall
to Webb, who scored for Arago al
most before the spectators realized
the ball was in play. That toss by
Webb gave Arago a lead which was
not relinquished during the first three
quarters of one of the fastest game*
seen in Arago for many moon*.
The hard fighting Power* team just
couldn’t get through the fast shifting
Arago defense and had to rely most
ly upon their long range sharp shoot
er* and upon free throw* for their
well earned twenty points. The team
that, Uie week before, had defeated
Riverton by a margin of thirty points
was justly relieved at Arago when
the timer’s horn ended the game
while the margin was three points in
their favor. Rolfe, of Powers, led the
attack with nine points to his credit,
while for Arago, Webb was high
point man with eight. „ The line-up
and scores for both teams follow*.’
Powers—Rolfe, rf, 9; Taylor, If;
Ward, c, 2; Mar*ee, rg, 5; Jones, lg, 4.
Arago—Webb, If, 8;
Sinko, rf, 3;
Cornwall, c, 4; Barklow, rg; Schroe
der, lg, 2. Sinko went out in the
fourth quarter and Pauli went in for
the last few minutes.
In the game between the second
teams Arago almost evened the situa
tion, taking the game by a margin of
one point, after having had as much
as an eight-point lead earlier in the
game. Final score, Arago 22, Powers
21. Collier, of Arago, was high point
man with 9, while Shepherd, of Pow
ers, had 6. The players were a* fol
lows: Robison, rf, 3; Collier, If, 9; W.
Carl, c; G. Pauli, s, 3; Patrick, lg, 8;
Randlemann, rg, 1; Power*—Ham
mock, rf, 2; Gamwell, Preston, If, 2;
Utterback, 4;Khepherd, c, 6; Lewel-
lyn, lg. 4; Ross, rg, 3. Arago played
the game with one substitution while
Powers used seven men.
After the games the Arago high
school girls served potato salad, sand
wiches and chocolate to the two teams
in the playshed.
The games were
marked by the absence of all hard
feeling and a display of good sports
manship and co-operation through
out McCue, of Coquille, refereed
the games.
