City Council by 4 to 2 Vote Approves Gahtract for Street Lighting A special meeting of the city coun cil was called Tuesday evening by Mayor Berg to consider four matter» —SERA projects, the matter of a con tract with the Mr. States Power Co., a north end improvement, and to open bids on pipe which will be laid as an SERA project. All councilmen were present and the vote on the resolution to adopt the contract, submitted by City Attorney Corby a month ago, was approved by a vote of 4 to 2. . - . Before its adoption Councilman Le fevre stated that he would invoke the recall on every man who voted for the contract and would also demand a referendum election—a thing im possible of doing under the Oregon referendum law. Mr. Lefevre wanted to know if the lighting contract had not been"left in the hands of the light committee. “It was,” replied the mayor, "but you stated you would not submit any sug gestions until the contract submitted was thrown out, and now jt is up to the council to decide whether the lighting agreement shall be taken out of the committees’ hands. Councilman Jeub moved to take the matter out of their hands, and Lefevre submitted an amendment to leave it in their hands until the next regular meeting. The vote on the amendment stood three to three—Le- fevere, Belloni and Seeley for it; Bryant, Jeub and Medley opposed.. Mayor Berg broke the tie by voting against the amendment. On the original motion the vol? stood 3 to 2, Councilman Belloni not voting. f Before voting on the motion to adopt the resolution.
