The Sentinel
11. A. YOÜNQ,
We had no idea that anyone would
take exception to Lans Leneve's
communication about the dangerous
condi 'ion of the Fairview road nor
consider any part df it as a personal
reflection. The Sentinel’s only idea
was to call attention to the fact that
the road out .there is dangerous, es-
p. cially during storms when limbs
or trees might fall on passing cars.
Duiing the campaign of Multno
mah county to get $67,000 for relief
of indigent! in that county, it waa re
vealed the county, during the past
year, had received the immense sum
of $7,033,300 to aepnd on unemploy-
:nent. This is spent on destitute un-
■mployed. and represents just about
» per cent of all the funds the state
Itas received in 1034.
On this basis the state has spent
more tlmn $13.000,000 on such work
this year, the other 35 counties re
ceiving the balance. Multnomah re
ceived its funds from the following
sources—SERA paid $3.735,900; CWA
paid «2.991.826; FERA paid $987.620.
and the state liquor fund, divided ac
cording to population, paid $227,855.
