Coquille A LETTER FROM HOME VOL. XXX. NO. 35. COQUILLE. COOS COUNTY, OREGON. FRIDAY. SEPTEMBER 14. 1934. - Cin AFFAIRS TALK By Mayor J. Arthur Berg at Woman’s Club Dinner Meeting Wednesday That was a splendid program pre sented by the Coquille Woman’s Club Wednesday evening when the Cham ber of Commerce members were in vited to join them in a banquet at the Coquille Hotel. ’ The violin solos by hfiss Muriel Dae were the same treat that they always are to Coquille audiences, while the vocal numbers given by Rev. W. Raymond Wilder brought forth the highest praise from those who had never heard him before and did not know what an excellent voice he has. ■ The addresses were unusually good, the one by C. W. Gano, presi dent of the Chamber of Commerce, dealing more with civic problems In which the two bodies might be mu tually helpful in making Coquille a finer place in which to make a home. Supt. P. W. Lane talked on edu cation. telling his hearers that they would always have the kind oi schools that they desired. The work done by the staff of instructors is a reflection of the interest shown ,ir that work by the patrons. He promis ed co-operation on the part of him self and teachers with the parents and homes in giving the boys and girls of the community the best pos sible foundation on which to bullc1 a life of character and usefulness. Mayor J. Arthur Berg’s talk war the best and most informative w< have ever heard him make. Not onl) is this the Sentinel opinion but ev eryone who heard his talk on city affairs has expressed the same opin ion. ! Privately the mayor says that he formerly dreaded to be called on fot a talk, but that now he really enjoys going Into detailed account of the city’s needs and activities. .! ' 1 ......... J. I . I --------- Lucky It Wan No Worse Holiday This Afternoon Ted Snyde • and Jim Shoemaker were pretty well bunged up yester day when the Coquille Machine Shop truck, in which they were going to Salmon mountain to do some ma chine repair work, ran off the grade this side of Broadbent on the Powers road. As nearly as can be figured the steering wheel locked and the truck ran off the road and tipped over backward aS it started up the bank. Snyder suffered a dislocated shoul der, but managed to lift the truck off his companion. Neither was se riously injured. The Coquille schools and practical ly cqggy business house in Coquille are closed this afternoon so that all may attend the Coos and Curry County Fair at Myrtle Point.
