Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Lett and son, Orlin, were Marshfield visitors Fri day- A very effective little missionary playlet, “Weary Womanhood,” was presented during the closing exercises of the Sunday school Sunday morning. It was put on by the missionary com mittee- of the C. E. society. Mrs. Walter Clayton spent the Week-end in Myrtle Point, where her daughter, Winifred, who has been aery ill with the flu. Winifred, who is a senior in M. P. U. H. 8., is board ing at the home of Mrs. Sarah Wil liams. Tommy Luttrell returned home Tuesday from Washington, where he several has been employed for months. The Civic Club held its regular meeting Friday afternoon at the school house, with a good attendance. After Hte business session a short but interesting program was presented, consisting of a poem by Mrs. Ray L.‘ Beckett, a vocal duet by Mrs. Zeff Christian and Mrs. Frank Mecum, and an advertising game. Refresh ments of cake and coffee brought the pk-asant afternoon, to a cloeo. Miss Martha Gustafson plans to close a four weeks’ evangelistic meet ing here next Bunday evening. Mias Gustafson is a guest at the Roy 8. Lutrell home on King creek during her stay in Bridge. . Mr. and Mrs. Harold James and son, Ronald, era spending a few days this week at their homestead. Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Miller, of Myr tle 'Point, have moved to (Powers for the winter. Dwaine entered the sec ond grade Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. John Wrlson, of Co quille, moved to Powers Saturday for the winter. Mrs. Jim Watson, of Riverton, is spending a week visiting with friends and relatives in Powers. Jim came up Saturday and attended the Junior High dance, which was given for the benefit of their basket ball team. Tuesday evening the local Women’s Club entertained the local 3-C boys, the Forest Service men, and their lady friends, their husbands and familiaa at the gym with an evening of skits, music, boxing, contest games and what have you. Late in the evening a lovely lunch wws served by the club members. There were about three hundred people in attendance. The Coos 'Bay Lumber Company is opening full blast and has employed a good many men to work on Eden ridge, where operations will include several cold dock landings. If the weather holds this work will continue for the winter. Right on heels of an official expose of alleged chiseling on the part of game commission employées comes an expose of alleged extravagance on the part of Ash commission employees, made public through an audit by the state department. Two care of this commission operated for an aggregate of 102,000 miles are shown to have re quired 12 complete sets of tires and tubes. Lou Baker, Mrs. Eva White and Mrs. Murray, of Roseburg, have been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. George "Hinton. Mm. A. B. Gant and Mrs. Msck Baker were hostesses to the Ladies Club last Thursday. Refreshments were served late in the afternoon to Mesdames Frank MdCann, L. C. Mast, A. F. Willson, Roy Mast, James Wil son, George Clinton, S. D. Clark, W. H. Brown, Hugo Michael, W. V. Schroeder, Misses Helen Mast, Lois Gant, Norma Johnson, Virginia Royale, Lorene Clark, June Baker, and the hostesses. Mr. and Mre. Chester Willson visit ed with the Felaher family a few days last week. •» Miss Lorene Clark is spending some time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Clark, being on a vacation from Seattle, where she is learning to be a beauty specialist. Brewster Valley The regular meeting of the Ladies Myrtle -Leaf club was held Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Julius Benham. ‘After the business meeting, the remainder-of the time was spent in quilting. Those from here to attend the meeting of the Grange at McKinley Saturday evening were; Mr. and Mrs. Julius Benham, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Abernathy, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Laird, Mm. J. D. Laird and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Krewson. James Crowley and Miss Haxei Durell gave a party Friday evening at the hall. The time was enjoyably spent in playing games and later a taffy pull. Those present were: George Woodruff, Sheldon Lloyd, Duane Shoemaker, Cora Bullock, Haze! Taylor, Velma, Eloda and Forrest Krewson, Jack. Edwina and Leeds Gnoves and the boat and host- Mr. and Mm. James Cypress and son, Mike, of Langlois, were visitors in the valley two days of loot week calling on relatives here. They re turned Thursday and Mrs. Cypress* father. Grant Harry, returned home with them for a couple of weeks’ visit. Mrs. Grant tHarry left Thursday for Coquille Where she will visit at the home of her son, Louis English, for a few weeks. Mrs. Roy Rookard and daughter, Florence Alma, of Myrtle Point, are visitors at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Mead. Mm. Orin Kirk and son, John, ac companied by Mrs. Minor Mead, Miss Willard and Miss Patterson spent Friday in Coquille. Tom Lawhorn was a Monday busi ness caller in Coquille. Kenneth Taylor is in the valley do ing some hauling with his truck. Kenneth Laird haa been engaged in trucking logo for a logging concern near Bandon the past two weeks.
