Mr*. Ina Davia spent Sunday at
Floras Lake and Bandon Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Severt Iverson, Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Bunch, Leanns and
Adrian Schroeder went to Bly last
Saturday. They are employed on a
trucking job for several months.
Mrs. Thed. Perry visited with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Wilson
Wednesday.
0. B. Wilson and son, Warren, went
to Washington Monday where they
will work in the fruit orchards.
Mr. Chandler i* spending this week
with his daughter, Mrs. C. E. John­
son.
Conrad Mier and R. V. Cummins, of
Portland, were Tuesday night guests
of the Lloyd Leatherman family.—
Charles and Howard Leatherman
spent the week-end at Waldport visit­
ing an uncle.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Edwards, of Port­
land, spent this week with her par­
ents, Mr. and Mre. H. W. Mast Mr.
Edwards enjoyed a hunting trip the
first of the week in the hills near
Powers. After returning from Pow­
ers, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Mast and the
Edwards spent two days fishing on
the Rogue. They returned to Port­
land Saturday to resume their duties
the following week. He is connected
with the Union Oil company and Mrs.
Edwards with the Y. W. C. A.
Mr. and Mrs. Laure La Flamme and
Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Howe were Bun­
day guest* of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
Leatherman.
Mr. and Mrs. William Mehl and
daughter, Gertrude, of Coquille, were

Miss Norma Johnson spent several

News Notes From Powers
Mrs. George Dwyer ahd the chil­
dren have returned to Powers for the
winter. Mr. Du yer is engaged with
the local 3-C camp. The children en­
tered school Tuesday.
Pat Dillon, who came in from John­
son creek, for Dan Martin’s funeral,
remained with friends in town for the
week.
Kenneth Kendall was painfully hurt
while working on Eden ridge for the
C. B. L. Co. Tuesday. He was taken
to the hospital. IHe received a bad
cut on his chin.
The different committees are busily
engaged arranging for tile Coos
county Federated clubs convention,
which will be held in Powers Wednes­
day, Oct. 111. The club session will be
held in the Gym, and the luncheon will
be at the Fellowship hall. Dressing
rooms will be provided at the same
place, which is just across the street
from the Gym.
The Royal Neighbors are giving an­
other dance Saturday evening in the
Gym. Neighbors from all over south­
ern Oregon will be in attenadnce.
The Powers Woman’s Club met in
regular session Wednesday, with Mrs.
Floyd Eaton and Mrs. Henry Moe as
joint hostesses.
After the regular
business meeting at which the first
vice president, Mrs. Clare Lemon-
owsky, presided. A very interesting
program arranged by Mrs. Albert
Powers was given.
The subject,
“Marriage" was handled in a very in­
teresting manner. Mrs. bill Mareee
then played a wedding march. Later
each member told where she bad met
her husband and how long she had
been married. Mrs. Ida Mathews had

Allan Smith was the bride of two and
one-half years.
Jack Wilson, of Bandon, who visited
in Powers last week, went to Wilson
'Prairie to visit hi* birthplace where
in 1860 he and hi* twin sister, Clar­
inda Lee, were born.
They moved
from there to Calf ranch when they
were six years old. This is the first
time he had ever visited the place of
■his birth. Some of the old logs, white
cedar by the way, of the old cabin are
still there in place. And the rocks
from the fireplace are etill there,
where they were placed by the builder
over seventy years ago.
The Junior High basket ball team
were out for practice in force Monday
evening. Howard Varney, the fourth
grade teacher, will coach this team.
We will give you a line-up later.
The old Hut building is now the
home of th* 3-C camp. The boys are
working on the river road. There are
five truck* graveling the new road
bed. Gravel is being taken from the
Tom Hayes place.
The Forest Service is now sending
crews into the mountain* for the win­
ter work.
The infant son of Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Delp died at Eden Valley. This
was th* first white child ever born in
Eden valley. Although a rugged, nine-
pound baby, he contracted pneumonia
and died before it was possible to have
a doctor. iHe was buried in Eden Val­
ley.
