Alice Perrott, who had taken a three month’« vacation from duty in the legal department of the sheriff’« office, returned to duty Wednesday afternoon. Mr». Emma Pierce has been an excellent substitute during Mr«. iPerrott’s absence. She was ef ficient, accommodating and well liked by those having business with the of fice. Miss Kathleen McClintock, high school instructor, arrived here Tues day evening from her home in Pen dleton. She had a most enjoyable va-< cation, «pending a month of it on a trip, to Horiolulu. She was on * the Islands 16 days, but counts the two crossing« of the Pacific as fully as interesting as the time spent over there. '» Mr. and Mrs. T. Brooks Hogan are expected here today from Portland for a short visit with her mother, Mrs. Sarah >P. Thrift, and her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thrift. This is the first visit Mrs. Hogan has made in Coquille for nine years. Mrs. Sarah Thrift will accompany them when they leave Tuesday for home and will spend the winter with them. Jenkins, county agent, to attend the annual Willam ette valley irrigation tour, which started from Portland Tuesday morn ing. The group will also return by way of Tillamook where they will in spect liquid manure tanks which are in common use in that section. Attending the tour are Ernest Clau sen and Walter Donald from Broad- Dent, Martin Schmidt from Norway, Clarence Schroeder from Arago, K. L. Detlefsen and Earl Cross from Co quille, Alton Kay and Harry Hull from Leneve. Ellis Dement of Broad- Dent will join the group in Portland, wh«re he has gone with several loads of cattle, and J. L. Burt is and John Carl of Arago will go to Tillamook to accompany the group while inspecting pita in that section. Interest in irrigation in Coqs coun ty has been increasing for some time and this trip is being made to see ac tual irrigation setups in operation under different conditions, some of which would be typical of many farms in Coos county, according to County Agent Jenkins. One farm will be vis ited where machinery will be engaged in levelling land for irrigation. Arrangements have been made through C. H. Bergstrom, county agent at Tillamook, for a tour in that county which will include a visit at several dairy farms, where the differ ent types of pits will be seen, aleo where tank wagons will be in opera tion spreading the material on pas tures.
