The list of famous teams of stage
and screen history has been swelled
by one during the past two-and-a-half
years.
Its members are Marlene Diet-
rich and Josef von Sternberg. “Blonde
Venus” coming to the Liberty Theatre
Sunday, is their latest co-operative
effort, with Miss Dietrich in the star
ring role and Von Sternberg as the
director.
The Dirtrich-Von Sternberg team
had its origin in Berlin late in 1929.
Von Sternberg, already a noted figure
in the movie world, had been called
there to direct Emil Janinga in “The
Blue Angel,” which was being made in
English and German.
In search of a leading woman; Von
Sternberg scoured Berlin, but with
out success.
One .night, half as a
means tff relaxation, half in hope of
finding what he wanted, he went to a
musical comedy. Miss Dietrich was
its star, and the moment Von Stern
berg saw her he knew she was the
woman he had been seeking.
She accepted the offer to play in the
picture, and appeared in both the
English and German verstone.
Then Von Sternberg was called
back to Hollywood, but when he went,
Miss Dietrich went with him. He di-
reeled her in “Morocco,” her first
American-made film, which was so
great a success that prints of the
English version of "The Rlue Angel"
were rushed to American screens. It
scored again.

“Sacrament” was the subject of the
Lesson-Sermon in all Churches of
Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, Jan. 8.1
The Golden Text was, "To do good,
and to communicate forget not: for
with such sacrifices God is well pleas
ed” (Heb. 18:16).
Among the citations which compris
ed the Lesson -Sermon was the follow
ing from the Bible: "And he was
withdrawn from them about a stone’s
cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
Saying, Father if thou be willing, re
move this cup from me: nevertheless
not my wHl, but thine, be done” (Luke
22:41, 42).
The Lesson-Sermon also included
the following passages from the
Christian Science textbook, ‘Science
and Health with Key to the Scrip
tures”, by Mary Baker Eddy: "Are!
