Next Week nt the Liberty Following to a synopsis of “This Is the Night,” which comes to the Liber ty Theatre Sunday for a throe days* run: Cary Grant, young Parisian busi ness man, returns suddenly to his horns to find his beautiful blonde wife, Thelma Todd, entertaining Roland Young, gay bachelor friend of her girlhood days. Grant ia immediately suspicious of Young’s presence, and the situation to not so pleasant for Young. But Charlie Ruggles, Young’s wine imbibing pal, arrives, sizes up the trouble immediately and attempts to smooth out the difficulty by starting an enthusiastic conversation about Young’s charming “wife.** This molli fies Grant who realises that if Young has a wife to whom he to really at tentive, his presence with Thelma must certainly be only an innocent Chadwick Lodge No„68 A F. a A. Grant is so fooled, indeed, that he invites Rugglee, Young and Young’s “wife” to take a holiday trip with him and Thelma to Venice. Ruggles and Young must cary out their bluff, and so Ruggles, always the fixer, engages Lily Damita, beautiful Parisan act ress, to pose as Young’s wife. She agrees to the scheme, but announces that she will act as wife only in pub lic, for the purpose of fooling Grant —and that in private she will freeze up on Young like an ice-4>erg. The plot works well until the friends are in Venice, where the ro mantic atmosphere does its work to change the original plans. While Young is kissing Lily as a demonstra tion of his “love” in the presence of Grant, he finds that the kins is giv ing him a big thrill. Lily gets ths same reaction. Thelma by this time begins to be jealous of Young. She tells him that Lily must be dismissed from their hotel, since she is not really Young’s wife. Young agrees with her—but when he tells Lily to leave she interprets the order as a sudden cooling of his love for her and she decides to retaliate by going out on a gondola ride with Ruggles. This move brings Young back to a realisa tion of his love for Lily. At the same time Grant is beginning to fall for the very flirtatious Lily. After many more parlor-bedroosw-and-bath com- plicationa. Young finally wins over the winsome Lily, who agrees to a reel marriage. Relief County Warrants at Par Roadmaster W.
