Lola has received a per fect score in every spelling lesson given for two six weeks periods. The fifth grade language class is writing a book entitled, "The Adven tures of Benjamin Bunny.” Several chapters have been completed and prove to be very interesting. Last Friday afternoon the first of the "Around the World by Radio” programs was given under the direc tion of Melvin Wilbarger. The acene represented a room in which a man was trying to find new stations on his radio. He succeeded in getting Port land, Ore., and an interesting program of American poems, plays, etc., was given by pupils concealed behind a screen. At the next program the man will try for Dublin, Ireland. Melvin Wilberger, 6th grade, has added his name to the list of those successful in securing a perfect score in every spelling lesson given for six weeks. Those absent from school on ac count of sickness during the past week are: Averill Bennett, Donald, Illene, Ada Bells and Ivan Cotton, Helen White, Elim and Isella Crosby, Arthur Wilberger and Hugh Gear hart. Albert Powers drove about forty head of young cattle to his Twin river ranch Tuesday. They had quite an exciting time fording the swollen waters of the Coquille. Mrs. Glenn Morgan returned to Portland Monday evening. Mrs. Mor gan has been nursing Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Morgan, who have been serious ly ill with flu. Born, Saturday, to Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Hull, a son. Mr. and Mrs. T. 8. Zimmerman, ac companied by Mr. and Mrs. Al Winn, drove to San Francisco last Thursday, for a visit with relatives. Mrs. Phoebe Wilson returned to Powers Sunday from Bridge where she has been nursing a case. Donne Marie Woolms was brought home Tuesday from the hospital. She had been seriously ill with intestin al flu. Mr*. G. P. Stewart, who has been quite ill, is up and about the house. Seven inches of snow was reported on Eden ridge Tuesday morning. A crew of men are picking up logs along the Soduthern Pacific right of way between here and Marshfield. McKinley Notes The sick folks in this neighborhood seem to be on the mend. Mrs. C. A. Miller who has been suffering from ulcer* of the stomach is a little better but still on a milk diet. Jessie Law horn is up but not able to be in school. Avia Jenkins is imprqgjyg. She had a septic sore throat and rfir aister. Aria, who attends Coquille high school, also had the same trouble it seems. Vorn and Archie Hansen are out of school this week on account of flu and sore threats. Wednesday morning the only pas senger on the school bus was Leonard Lawhorn from this community. The monthly summary as given by the local weather observer for March is: maximum temperature, 78 on Mar. 81. Minimum, 80 on Mar. 8. Total precipitation for the month, 12.45 inches. Greatest in 24 hours, 3.15. Since Sept. 1 the total rainfal has been 63.87 inches. Archie Hansen got his 100 chicks a week ago for his Smith-Hughes project and so far has had no casual tie« among them.
