The Riverton basket ball boys held
a practice scrimmage with Coquilte
at Riverton Thursday afternoon of
last week. Another practice was held
at Coquille Tuesday after school No
scores wore kept but the teams are
quit* evenly matched.
The first basket ball league game
of the season was played on our floor
with Ooos River Saturday night. The
large auditorium was packed with
loyal supporters of both teams as well
as many others from nearby towns.
Coos Rievr has a very strong team
but was handicapped by having one
of its beet men ill. so they lost to us
by a score of 40 to 18. The Coos Riv
er girls were more fortunate, how
ever, and won from our girts 16 to
18. The same night the Riverton In
dependents won from the Coos River
Independents 28 to 14.
One of the moot delightful social
gatherings in Riverton for some time
was a birthday party at the W. T. Al
pina home Sunday, honoring Mrs. Al
pine. A most bountiful and delicious
dinner was served about two o’clock,
following which most every one Joined
in the music and singing. The hostess
received many useful and beautiful
gifts. Besides the host and hostess
and ton, Karl, there were present: Mr.

week and looking after some of his
property interest. Since leaving hem
a few yearn ago, he has been building
up a fox farm near Butte Falls.
On Friday night of thia week our
boys will motor up to Arago to play
their second league game of the sea
son. The Arago team is rated as one
of the strongest in th* county, so our
boys realize they will be up against
real men and therefore that it will
take th* combin«d best efforts of our
team to win.
