the International Association of Lions
Clubs at the thirteenth annual conven
tion in session at LousviUe, Ky. He
takes office immediately, succeeding
Bon A. Ruffin, of Richmond, Va., as
head of the second largest service
organisation in the world, with 1840
clubs and 70,000 members tn every
state of the union, and every province
of Canada, and in China, Mexico,
Cuba and Hawaii.
Buses Roll on Roads
According to "Bus Transportation,”
at the end of 1928 there were 23,211
separate "companies” operating 92,-
325 motor buses in the United States.
The majority of. these "companies,”
however, seem to have been operated
by one man or two men. A total of
15,929 companies were operating
buses only for use in transporting
children to and from school.
For
school use, 40,875 buses were used.
Motor carrier companies operated 36,-
188 and electric companies operated
10,062.
Miles of route operated were given
as 719,250, of which 410,527 miles
were in school use, and 252,000 by
motor carrier companies. The total
investment in rolling stock and ter
minals was estimated to be 8530,000,-
000, producing a gross revenue of
1279,000,000.
