The season of universal cheer
and good-will is upon us. The
day of all days—Christmas, fa
day morning when 10 degrees above
zero was recorded by C. Vernon
Smith’s thermometer.
Sunday morning a 25 degree mark
was touched; on Monday it was 27,
on Tuesday 21, Wednesday 22H, ahd
yesterday 24 degrees. The old say
ing of “three frosts and then rain,”
has proven false this week, for there
has been a heavy white frost each
morning.
This morning the thermometer
stood at 29 degrees.

Mrs. J. H. Oerding was celebrated at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Oerding last night, December 20th.
Just members of the immediate fami

thirteen children, of whom all are
living. As the cake, which carried a

being brought in, the bridal chorus

J. L. Smith in Portland
J. L. Smith left last Sunday for
Salem to see the physicians of the
Compensation Department. They im
mediately sent him to Portland for
electrical treatment. Neither the doc
tor at Salem nor the one at Portland
has expressed an opinion as to the
prospects that Mr. Smith’s leg will
heal properly. He is coming home
Saturday night to be with his family
on Christmas but will have to return
to Portland for further treatment.
Wm. Hull 88 Years of Age
William Hull, who is being cared
for by Mrs. B. C. Minard in her home
on the Marshfield highway, celebrated
his 88th birthday Saturday, December
15th.
Mrs. Minard had prepared a
special dinner for him. Although in
very frail health now, Mr. Hull can
get around surprisingly well, and
was warmly welcomed by the mem
bers of Chadwick Lodge A. F. A A.
M., when he attended a special com
munication last week.
