Working for the Cottage
Mrs. Minnie Hulet, of Myrtle Point,
reports that on Thursday Jan. 13th,
she spoke in the grade school at Pow­
ers and also at Camp 8 relative to
the essay contest and on Friday she
spoke at the Pleasant Point school
and at the Roy school. She states
that these four schools have stated
their intention of taking up the
writing of the stories. The subject
for the essay contest is “Why Coos
County- Should Build a Cottage at
the Children’s Farm Home.”
Mrs. Wanda Wilcox, principal of
the Broadbent school, reports the fol­
lowing named pupils as having enter­

Isabelle, returned from Portland. They
visited with Mrs. W. H. Banks while
there and returned Sunday night.
Thursday morning Mrs. Wptta, of
Beaverton, mother of Mrs. Omer Idso,
arrived in this eity to care for her
daughter who is confined to her home
with a general breakdown.
Last week Mrs. Eula Mayse, who
was operated on week before last at
the Clarke hospital, was removed to

Mrs. R. Harrison Mast returned
Tuesday evening from San Francisco
where she. hss been for some time
with her mother who has been very
ill. She left her mother recovering
slowly.
Tuesday Rev. Leander Smith left
for Seattle where he will hold meet­
ings for two weeks. John Root will ?
take his place in the Brethren church
in this city.
Saturday evening Mrs. Birdie Ha­
zleton returned from Portland where
she was visiting her daughter, who is
in the Shrine hospital.
R. C* Denient'will leave Friday for
Los Angeles to vitit his daughter,
Mrs. F. M. White and other relatives.
Tuesday evening the Chamber of
Commerce of Myrtle Point met at the
city hall and elected officers for the
following year: Jess D. Clinton, presi­
dent; Henry Rosslow, vice president;
and Sam Johnston, sercetary-treasur-
er. It was voted to increase their
board of directors to sixteen.
The
following directors were elected: E. C.
Barker, A. C. Chase, timer F. Russell,
Earl R. Cooley, Henry A. Schroeder,
E. J. Schneider, Clarke Fensler, A. J.
Radabaugh, Chas. Broderick, E. C.
Roberta and Geo. E. Hamilton. The
balance of the directors will be elect­
ed later because they wish to get some
farmers on the board.
Wednesday Rev. Mr. Idso with Mr.
Christensen of the building commit­
tee of the M. E. church, were in Port­
land in conference with Mr. ’Milder,
the contractor.
The Presbyterian Ladies Aid met at
the home of Mrs. E. C. Barker on
Wednesday. Those present were: Mes-
dames C. C. Hulet, Sam Johnston,
Verle Rayer, Birdie Haselton, Henry
is a favorite with our larger poultry farms.

Davenport and Mrs. Maude Strong
were shopping in Marshfield.
Thursday morning Tom Sumerlin
received treatment at the Mast A
Wilson hospital for a broken ankle,
received at Lawhorne’s logging camp.
Friday night January 7th the Myr­
tle Point high school team played
Arago at Arago, the score being 26
to. 10 in Myrtle Point’s favor. Laird
was high point man for Myrtle Point,
with eight points. Druliner and Hart­
ley tied for second with six points
each and Hulet was third with four
points. Burbank was high man for
Arago with six pointe and Carl was
second with four. The line-up was as
follows: Myrtle Point, Keith Laird,
R. F.; Virgil Smith, L. F.; Waldo
Hartley, C.; Forrest, R. G.; and Car­
ter, L. G. Arago, Carl, R. F.; Robi­
son, L. F.; Meyers, C.; Sinko, R. G.;
Burbank, L. G.
Myrtle Point sub­
stitutes were Alden Warner for Laird,
Delpss Drulinea for Smith, Bill Hulet
for Hartley and Elbert Schroeder for
Forrest and Mitchel Meyers for Car­
ter. Arago substituted Miller for
Carl.
Wednesday evening Mr. and Mrs.
Clarke Fensler entertained at a
Bridge party for a number of their
intimate friends.
The home was
beautifully decorated in Japanese
quince and carnations. At the close
of the games Mrs. Eugenia Dement
was given the prise for high score.
Mrs. Ralph King received second
prise for high score and Mrs. R. Har­
rison Mast had low score. Dr. Mast
received high score for the men. At
a late hour the guests were served a
most appetising lunch. Those enjoy­
ing the evening were Messrs, and
Mesdames Bud Emery, Harry Dement,
Chas. Harlocker, Ed. Roberta, Ralph
Kring, Theodore Clinton, Henry Ross­
low, Roland Bowers, Ellis Dement,
