Many of our friends in and around Coquille would be astound
ed to know how many thousands of dolars are “carried on thex
books" of local business and professional men—earning for them
not a cent of interest.

The loss from this huge amount of idle capital affects not
only the creditors, personally, but everyone in the community as
wen. It handicaps the merchants—prevents him from saving
money through cash discounts on his own purchases.
When he sells for eash or short credit these losses are elim-

When borrowing money at the bank we think nothing of
paying a good rate of interest for its use.
