dry weather the road w ill tp open to
traffic in about a month.

or possibly three more trucks Will
be brought in shortly to facilitate the
work.
“ It is expected that the grading e l
the Port Orford-Elk river unit o f the
Roosevelt highway w ill be completed
and ready fo r the gravel this week.
Contractor Haakensen has not start­
ed graveling between the tw o bridges
yet, owing to the non-arrival o f a
hoist, which has been ordered from
Seattle, aad which urill be used to
convey the gravel from the bar to
the bunkers.

the Sixes and Elk bridges and on the
Elk river bridge the steel is nearly
all laid in position. The riveting ma­
chine has not arrived as yet. The high­
way w ill probably ha completed by

Getting Started oa Jetty
Two carloads o f machinery, camp
equipment and other supplieb fo r the
harbor work arrived in Marshfield
Monday and ware placed aboard a
barge and towed to the mite of the
Jetty operation* at the entrance to
the bay.
A pile driver was alad towed down
while the port dredge le ft Wednes-
harbor improvement work.
Resident Engineer Cole, assistant
to Lieutenant Bowiey, is n v am tha

machinery and other equipment aa it
arrives.

Tbs property, being on the high-
way, la considered o f value and be-
sides bench and hill land, contains a
considerable area In the tideflats on
the east side o f the.highway.
The time fo r a hearing has not bean
named, but It is thought the evidence
will be taksn in Marshfield before
Commissioner Duncan Douglas and
transferred to Roooburg fo r final
hearing.
Mr. Yoakam la now logging in the
vicinity o f Coaledo. Mr. Gilfilan is
a miner sad form erly worked in the
