ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Wallowa Valley Festival of the Arts is set for Sept.
10-18.
An opening reception, quick draw, live music and
silent auction will be the weekend of Sept. 16-18.
Leading up to the weekend, the Josephy Center will
off er art workshops for local and visiting artists as well
as an en plein air competition that begins Sept. 10.
Other activities include the Joseph gallery walk and a

JOSEPH — This year marks
the 40th annual Wallowa Val-
ley Festival of the Arts, and
the deadline to submit work is
Sunday, July 31.
The show is sponsored by
the Josephy Center for Arts and
Culture.
“This festival is the larg-
est juried fi ne art exhibition
in Eastern Oregon, featuring
representational/traditional real-
ism from the Pacifi c Northwest
and beyond, as well as contem-
porary art,” said Dawn Norman,
Josephy exhibits director. “The
festival refl ects the beauty, cul-
ture and traditions of our region
through its arts and artists.”
She said that art “consistent
with that intent” will be consid-
ered by the jury.
Art show categories are:
• Sculpture: Any three-dimen-
sional work in wood, clay,
stone, bronze or other metal
• Painting: Oil, acrylic, water-
color
• Drawing: Pastel, pencil,
graphite, charcoal, ink or any

combination
• Printmaking: Woodblock,
engraving, etching, monoprint,
aquatint, linotype, lithography,
silkscreen or digital art prints
• Photography: Any image cap-
tured either on light-sensitive
fi lm or electronically in digital
form, including digitally or
otherwise altered prints
• Other: Glass, jewelry, fi ber
arts, ceramics, mixed media
Copies, kits, reproductions
or work done under the super-
vision of an instructor are not
eligible.
The deadline to submit work
is July 31, by 10:30 p.m., via
www.callforentry.org.
Norman said accepted art-
ists will be invited to participate
in the quick draw and plein air
painting events, and are pro-
vided with one complimentary
ticket to Friday night’s opening
reception. Additional tickets can
be purchased through the Jose-
phy Center in person and online.
