Bulldog tennis players dominate La Grande

Baker’s tennis teams had
overwhelming success in sin-
gles and doubles against La
Grande on Monday, April 25,
at the Ash Grove courts in
Baker City.
Baker lost only one match
against the Tigers.
In boys singles, Baker’s
Danny Cunningham and Ca-
leb Hills both won in straight
sets without dropping a game.
Cunningham beat Hunter
McCall, and Hills defeated Ta-
lan Kiesecker.
In boys doubles, Bak-
er’s Ethan Hills and Jayden
Yencopal were paired against
Brayden Sudbrock and Stew
Siders, with the Baker duo win-
ning handily, 6-0, 6-2.
Baker’s team of Noah Lien
and Weston Downing had the
Bulldogs’ third perfect score,
beating Hunter McCall and
Lars Langers, 6-0, 6-0.
In girls singles the matches
were slightly more balanced,
as Baker’s No. 1 singles player,
Sarah Plummer, had to over-
come a one-set deficit to beat
Laura Mingrone.
After losing the first set 6-4,
Plummer prevailed 6-3, 6-1 to
claim the match.
Isabel Cunningham beat
Bethany Brock, 6-0, 6-4, and
Campbell Vanderwiele soundly
defeated Celeste Villagomez,
6-1, 6-3.
In girls doubles, Baker’s
Maya Smith and Olivia Jacoby
beat Emily Wilson and Collette
Larvik, 6-3, 6-2.
La Grande’s doubles team of
Shanti Langidrik and Vega Me-
rino-Sampedro claimed the Ti-
gers’ lone win, topping Hannah
Lay and Ruby Warner, 6-1, 6-2.
Baker was slated to play
host to Four Rivers of On-
tario Wednesday, April 27, and
Nyssa on Thursday, April 28,
starting at 4 p.m.
