PIANO CONCERT
HERMISTON — A classical
piano concert will be held at
Hermiston’s New Hope Com-
munity Church, 1350 S. Highway
395, on Friday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m.
The free event features Daniel
Longhin, the church’s pastor
of Hispanic ministries, who will
perform music by Chopin and
Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata.”

BIG READ EVENTS
PLANNED IN UNION
UNION — The Catherine
Creek Community Center youth
group will host a chapter book
reading, discussion and meal at
6 p.m., Feb. 17, as part of The
Big Read events. This is open to
teens and parents.
Also, the Union Carnegie Li-
brary will be reading companion
books for ages 3-6 during the
month of February. Readings will
be at 10 a.m. Tuesdays.

LAUNCHES ‘LAST
FRIDAYS’
UNION — Catherine Creek
Community Center, housed in
the former Methodist Church
building on Main Street in Union,
is launching a new monthly
program called “Last Fridays.”
Beginning Feb. 25, on the last
Friday of the month the center
will be open from 4-8:30 p.m. for
vendors to sell their wares. Spac-
es are open to artists, crafters,
farmers, foodies, home-based
businesses, etc. Vendor spaces
start at $20. The center’s com-
mercial kitchen may be used with
advance reservations, and the
stage will be open for musicians.

LEARN A NEW ART SKILL
AT CROSSROADS
BAKER CITY — Ginger Rem-
bold is off ering a tie-dye class with
a new ice technique on Thursday,
Feb. 24, 6-8 p.m. at Crossroads
Carnegie Art Center, 2020 Auburn
Ave. All the dye, fi xer, string and
rubber bands are provided with
a range of 10 colors available.
Rembold will have cotton shoe-
laces available for purchase.
Participants provide items to be
tie-dyed (up to 10). These must
be pre-washed and have a cotton
content of 75% to 100%. Cost is
$16 members, $24 nonmembers.
Children ages 8 to 10 are $5 with
a paid adult. There is also a cost of
$1 per item dyed. Register at www.
