Art Center East showcases ‘Fiber Fo cused on Color’

Exhibit opens Feb. 4

A GRANDE — Art Center
East opens its sixth annual
Fiber Arts and Jewelry Exhibit,
with the theme “Fiber Focused
on Color,” in the Co-Op Gallery
featuring work from Northeast-
ern Oregon fi ber and jewel-
ry artists.
The community is invited to
attend a free opening recep-
tion Friday, Feb. 4, 6-8 p.m., at
ACE, 1006 Penn Ave. At the
reception, local cottage bakery
Teahouse will off er a variety of
whole-grain baked goods for
purchase as well as a curated
selection of loose leaf teas for
sampling. The exhibit will run
Feb. 4 through March 26.
According to Jennifer Durr,
gallery director, the fi ber arts
and jewelry exhibit “creates
a platform for this underrep-
resented branch of the visual
arts.” The exhibit’s theme of

“Fiber Focused on Color” chal-
lenged artists to relate their
artwork to one or more of the
10 Pantone colors in the 2022
Spring and Summer New York
Fashion Palette. The 10-color
palette will be displayed in the
Co-Op Gallery to guide visitors
in discovering the color con-
nection within each artwork.

a fundraiser for the art center.
Visitors may purchase raffl e
tickets in the Gift Gallery or on
the ACE website. Art Center
East has also collaborated with
the Union County Warming
Station for this exhibit — visi-
tors who bring one item from
the warming station’s wish list
(see ucwarmingstation.org) will
receive one free raffl e ticket
in exchange (one exchange
per visitor).
The winning raffl e ticket
will be drawn at the end of the
exhibit. The quilt is valued at
$275.
The public closing reception
for the exhibit is set for Friday,
March 11, 6-8 p.m.

Also opening Friday, Feb. 4,
at ACE is the exhibit “New
Works by Sarah Bird” in
the main gallery. This show
features oil painter Sarah
Bird. The opening reception
is Feb. 4, 6-8 p.m. The exhibit
runs through March 26.
Regular gallery hours are
Wednesday-Friday, noon-5 p.m.,
and Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Ex-
hibits can also be viewed online
at artcentereast.org thanks to a
partnership with John J. Howard
Real Estate. Galleries are open
to the public and admission is
always free.
