The lines between reality and fantasy
begin to blur for filmmaking couple Chris
and Tony (Vicky Krieps, Tim Roth) when
they visit the Baltic Sea island where
Ingmar Bergman drew inspiration for
his scripts in this haunting 2021 drama
from director Mia Hansen-Love (“Eden,”
“Maya”). Mia Wasikowska, Anders
Danielsen Lie and Hampus Nordenson
also star.
Christoph Waltz (“Inglourious Basterds”)
directed and stars in this 2019 drama
as Ulrich, a middle-aged German
social climber who seduces and marries
Washington, D.C., socialite widow Elsa
(Vanessa Redgrave) in order to ingratiate
himself with the power players in that city
and launch a career in politics. Annette
Bening, Corey Hawkins and Caroline
Palmer also star.
“How I Met Your Father”
Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and much
of the creative team behind “How I Met
Your Mother” return for this comedy
spinoff that casts Hilary Duff (“Younger”)
as Sophie, the show’s protagonist and
narrator, who tells her young son the story
of how she met his father while hanging
out with her tight-knit group of friends.
Christopher Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom
Ainsley and Suraj Sharma are also in the

“Movie: American Night”
From Italy comes this 2021 actioner
about a mobster, an art forger, a
narcoleptic criminal and other assorted
characters whose paths cross when a
much-coveted Andy Warhol painting
surfaces. Jonathan Rhys Myers, Paz Vega,
Michael Madsen, Emile Hirsch and
Jeremy Piven head the talented cast for
writer/director Alessio Della Valle (“The
Lamb Lies Down on Broadway,” “Inside
the Stones”).
