“Movie: Mariah Carey’s All I
Want for Christmas Is You”
Carey is heard as herself in this 2017
yuletide feature inspired by her smash
Christmas tune, but her younger, CGI-
animated self is voiced by Breanna Yde
in a story that opens with little Mariah
yearning to get a puppy. She has her eye
on a pooch at the pet store, but first she
must prove that she’s responsible enough
by dog-sitting Jack, her uncle’s crazy,
high-maintenance canine.

“Movie: Nine”
“With Love”
Set in 1980s-era Detroit at the height
of a national crack epidemic and
based on a true story, Yann Demange’s
2018 biographical crime drama stars
Richie Merritt as 14-year-old Richard
Wershe Jr., who became the youngest
FBI informant ever when he went
undercover in the bureau’s war on
drugs. Matthew McConaughey, Bel
Powley and Jennifer Jason Leigh also
star.
The hit stage musical, inspired by the
classic Federico Fellini movie “8 1/2,”
gets filmed treatment from director Rob
Marshall in this respectable if less-than-
electrifying rendering. Daniel Day-Lewis
is the lucky fellow surrounded by ladies
as he plays a filmmaker distracted from
the business at hand by the numerous
women in his life. Penelope Cruz, Nicole
Kidman, Kate Hudson, singer Fergie and
Sophia Loren also appear.
Created and written by Gloria Calderon
Kellett (“One Day at a Time”), this
five-episode romantic comedy follows
a multi-generational Latino family
over the course of 12 months as they
experience the highs and lows of life
during some of the most heightened
days of the year. Constance Marie
(“Switched at Birth”) and Benito
Martinez (“The Shield”) head the cast.
