Baker basketball teams open season Dec. 2
Baker City Herald
Baker’s girls and boys basketball
teams will open their 2021-22 sea-
sons in a much more normal fashion,
with the winter solstice looming
rather than its summer counterpart.
With the pandemic postponing
the usual winter sports schedule a
year ago, basketball and other winter
sports were moved to late spring. The
Bulldogs played most of their games
during June.
But now basketball, as well as
wrestling and swimming, return to
their traditional season.
The Baker boys and girls have
the same fi rst opponent — Home-
dale, Idaho.
The girls will play host to Home-
dale on Thursday, Dec. 2, while the
boys travel to Homedale for a 6 p.m.
PST tipoff.
Both girls and boys teams will
amass well over 1,000 miles during

a pair of December road trips where
they’ll play the same teams.
The Bulldogs will head to the
Willamette Valley early in the month
for games against Estacada on Dec.
9 and Molalla the next day. The next
week they’ll have an even longer
journey, to Klamath Falls, for games
against Mazama on Dec. 17 and
Klamath Union the following day.
Both teams will also have a road
trip to Central Oregon early in the
new year, playing at Madras on Jan.
7 and at Crook County, in Prineville,
on Jan. 8.
The Bulldogs open Greater Or-
egon League play on Jan. 11 against
La Grande in the Baker gym. The
girls will take on the Tigers at 6 p.m.,
followed by the boys game around
7:30 p.m.
The rematch of the rivalry will
follow at La Grande on Jan. 28, with
the same tipoff times.
The Baker wrestling team will
open its season on Dec. 3 when
the JV team travels to Enterprise.
Varsity wrestlers start the next day,
Dec. 4, with the Anthony Lakes
Invite at Baker High School starting
at 10 a.m. Other teams are Grant
Union and Nampa Christian. Baker
will also have intrasquad matches
starting at 6 p.m. that day.

Raiders take advantage of penalty, beat Cowboys 36-33 in OT

ARLINGTON, Texas — Daniel
Carlson kicked a 29-yard fi eld goal
in overtime after Anthony Brown’s
fourth pass-interference penalty kept
the drive alive, and the Las Vegas
Raiders beat the Dallas Cowboys
36-33 on Thursday, Nov. 25.
Carlson’s fi fth fi eld goal came af-
ter Brown was called for interference
on Zay Jones on third-and-18. All
four of Brown’s interference penalties
came on third-down incompletions.
The Raiders (6-5) ended a three-
game losing streak with their fi rst
Thanksgiving victory since 1968. It
was their fourth appearance on the
holiday since then, with the previous
two losses coming at the Cowboys.
Carlson put Las Vegas ahead
33-30 with a career-long 56-yarder
with 1:52 remaining. Greg Zuerlein,
who missed an extra point after the
fi rst Dallas TD, answered with a
45-yarder with 19 seconds to go.
Tony Pollard had a 100-yard
kickoff return for Dallas in the third
quarter, but was stopped inside the
15 to start overtime. The Cowboys
went three-and-out starting from
their 7, and the Raiders fi nished off
the third victory for the AFC West
against the NFC East-leading Cow-
boys (7-4) in the past four games.
Brown had his back to Jones
when Derek Carr threw the pass
with Las Vegas at its 43. The
penalty put the Raiders at the Dal-
las 24, and the winning kick came
after Dallas was penalized twice for
rushing past the line of scrimmage
before the snap.
Carr threw for 373 yards, includ-
ing a 56-yard touchdown strike to
DeSean Jackson. Marcus Mariota
had a short scoring run on a shot-
gun keeper.
Dak Prescott had 209 of his 375
yards passing in the fourth quarter.
His 32-yard touchdown pass to
Dalton Schultz and 2-point conver-
sion toss to the tight end pulled
the Cowboys even at 30 with 2:54
remaining after they trailed almost
from the start.
Bills 31, Saints 6
NEW ORLEANS — Josh Al-
len passed for 260 yards and four
touchdowns as Buffalo sent injury-
ravaged New Orleans to its fourth
straight loss.
Dawson Knox caught two
touchdown passes, giving him a
franchise-best seven TDs in a single
season by a tight end. His second
score gave the Bills (7-4) a 24-0
lead.
Stefon Diggs had seven recep-
tions for 74 yards and a touchdown,
and running back Matt Breida
turned a short pass into a 23-yard
score.
The Saints (5-6), playing without
dynamic running back Alvin Kama-
ra for a third straight game, were
shut out for three quarters. They
fi nally scored on Trevor Siemian’s
11-yard pass to Nick Vannett on the
fi rst play of the fourth.
