what little water is left.
The birds are either in the
leave strips of grain or next
to water, or transitioning
between the two.
• California quail —
Numbers are still down
from years past but the
brood sizes were good.
Most are around the safety
zone borders a few birds
should be scattered around.
Grassland, fencerows,
brush and areas adjacent
to agricultural fi elds are
good locations to key on
— but don’t overlook dry
and receding wetlands. The
wetland habitat provides
more opportunity for pheas-
ants than all the other areas
combined.
All visitors, including
hunters, must have in their
possession a free daily
permit to access the wild-
life area. Permits will be
available at self-check-in
stations at entry points and
parking lots. All visitors are
required to have an ODFW
Wildlife Area Parking
Permit. Hunters receive a
free parking permit with
their hunting license.
Parking permits are to be
displayed on the vehicle
dash. Learn more about
ODFW’s Wildlife Area
Parking Permit Program.

resources.
In general, surveys for
blue (dusky) and ruff ed
grouse indicate that blue
grouse populations are
still below the long-term
average. Nevertheless, these
species should provide fair
opportunity into October,
especially in more heavily
forested areas in the Snake
River Unit.
Chukar remain abundant
in more arid areas, specif-
ically in patches of cheat-
grass above the Imnaha
River and on vegetated
slopes along the Wenaha
and Grande Ronde rivers.

be tempted to include a friend or loved one in
your most personal affairs today, but perhaps
this is not the right time. Reconsider.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19) -- You are
likely to hear about plans that do not include
you -- and what’s wrong with that? You have
your own business to attend to today!
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) -- Progress
cannot be made today if you are unwilling to
let go of your outdated ways of thinking about

YOUR BIRTHDAY by Stella Wilder
Born today, you are a highly creative, even
“visionary” individual who will stop at noth-
ing to pursue a kind of alternate reality that
serves your own interests and agenda far more
than that observed and followed by most
other individuals worldwide. Does this mean
you live in a kind of fantasy world? Yes, to a
degree, but what makes the difference for you
is that you know it -- and knowing it allows
you to span the gulf, psychologically at least,
between what you consider to be “real” and
the real thing.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 10

keen on to begin with. Keep your eyes open.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21) -- A minor
change in your routine has a major impact on
your state of mind today. This is what you’ve
