“Movie: I Am Durán”
From director Mat Hodgson (“The Four
Year Plan”) comes this 2019 documentary
about the Panamanian boxer who held
titles in four weight classes and helped
inspire his homeland’s people to rise up
against its CIA-funded dictator to achieve
independence. Fellow fighters Sugar Ray
Leonard, Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis
offer their observations, as do Robert
De Niro, Sylvester Stallone and Larry
Merchant.
“Movie: Desperado”
Antonio Banderas makes his debut as an
action hero in this 1995 Western from
director Robert Rodriguez. A sequel to “El
Mariachi,” the film follows a guitar-toting
gunman as he sets his sights on a drug lord.
Cheech Marin provides a few laughs in his
bit role as a bartender; Salma Hayek also
stars.
“Movie: My Name Is Pauli
Murray”
After producing and directing the Oscar-
nominated 2018 biography “RGB”
about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader
Ginsburg, Julie Cohen and Betsy West
teamed up again for this documentary that
looks at the life and ideas of Pauli Murray,
a non-binary Black lawyer, activist and
poet who influenced both Bader Ginsburg
and Chief Justice Thurgood Marshall.
