“All in the Family”
A film character actor named Carroll
O’Connor carved his name permanently
into television history in this iconic and
much-decorated 1971-79 CBS sitcom in
which he stars as Archie Bunker, a Queens,
N.Y., blue collar worker whose bigoted
views of the world clash sharply with
those of his liberal son-in-law Mike (Rob
Reiner). Jean Stapleton and Sally Struthers
also star.
“Movie: Alpha”
Young Australian actor Kodi Smit-
McPhee (“The Road”) heads a cast of
otherwise largely unfamiliar actors in this
compelling 2018 adventure film that is
set during the last Ice Age 20,000 years
ago in Upper Paleolithic Europe. Albert
Hughes’ film follows teenage hunter
Keda (Smit-McPhee), who befriends an
injured direwolf he meets while on his
first hunting party. Jóhannes Haukur
Jóhannesson also stars.
“Movie: Cinderella”
“Maude”
A spinoff of “All in the Family,” this well-
regarded 1972-78 CBS sitcom cast future
Golden Girl Bea Arthur in the title role of
Maude Findlay, a liberated 1970s woman
who isn’t shy about sharing her opinions
with anyone within earshot. The stellar
cast also includes fellow future Golden Girl
Rue McClanahan, Bill Macy, Conrad Bain,
Adrienne Barbeau and Esther Rolle.
UPGRADE
From writer/director Kay Cannon (“30
Rock,” “Blockers”) comes this modernized
version of the classic musical fairy tale of
the peasant girl and her nasty stepmother
and stepsisters with singer Camila Cabello
in her acting debut in the title role, here
playing a more outspoken Cinderella. The
stellar cast includes Idina Menzel, Billy
Porter, Minnie Driver, Pierce Brosnan and
