Northeast Oregon TV Weekly August 29 - September 4, 2021 l 3 BY JAY BOBBIN Amy Smart OF ‘DC’S STARGIRL’ ON THE CW How have you found it to play in the world of “DC’s Stargirl,” which employs both realism and fantasy? It’s so incredible, because the creativity of the storylines and the fan base – and this whole world is just pretty fascinating, so cool. I love being part of “Stargirl” because we’re like a big family. We spend six months together every year, and the talent on this is amazing, from all these actors to Geoff (Johns, the showrunner) to the writers to the special-effects team. To me, it’s sort of a brand-new experience, even though I’ve been in this business so long. It’s been really eye- opening. and so much fun. Though your character Barbara knows more in the current Season 2 about her daughter Courtney’s super-activities as Stargirl, how was it for you to play the role initially, without her seeming too naive? There’s just so many family dynamics in trying to keep the balance of being a mom and a daughter. Obviously, so much went on in the first season, where Barbara was completely oblivious to it. Her instincts and her intuition knows something’s not right, but she has to continue to just go with what she knows ... which is not much, in the first season. From my personal experience, parenting is so hard. There’s just so many challenges; your children are constantly challenging you, and it makes you look in the mirror so much and see where your own weaknesses are, and your patience. I think with Barbara, she has really great intentions for her daughter and her stepson, trying to balance life and be a good mom and role model. inside every Inside Thursday every hursday BY JOHN CROOK Adios!
