4 AUGUST 1825, 2021 MIXED MEDIUM Take it & make it Go! staff L A GRANDE — Art Center East is busy putting to- www.artcentereast.org gether in-person and online classes and activities — in the meantime, bring the art to you with the center’s Take & Make Art Kits, perfect for a car ride, a camping trip or a long hot August afternoon at home by the AC. Or, if you’re feeling so- cial, choose a kit designed for a group. A new round of off erings — recently launched at www. artcentereast.org/learn/classes/ take-make-art-kits — has kits for all ages, skill levels and budgets. A press release from ACE highlighted the Eugy Animals kits (age 6+). “These cardboard critters come in a wide variety of species (real and imaginary!) and are so much fun to make,” according to the announce- ment. Also for ages 6 and older, Shapescapes Sculpture in a Box is a simple toy made of lots of bright pieces of plastic that you can turn into a work of art or use to build a favorite animal — then take it apart and build something new. The release pointed out that these kits grow the imagination, build spa- tial skills and introduce color awareness. If you’re feeling more like spending some quality time with your family and/or friends, ACE recommends the Words of Art Game (age 10+). In this game, each player chooses the art card they think is the best visual representation of the designated storyteller’s prompt. A staff favorite for grown- ups is the Artistic Self-Care Kit, which comes with a lovely can- dle, a beautiful coloring book for adults, watercolor pencils, some bath tea and a cocktail/ mocktail. It’s a perfect gift for a friend, or for yourself. If you yearn to sketch, paint, bead or stitch, learn calligraphy, or make your own paper or a collage, check out the other Take & Make Kits on the Art Center East website, or stop by the center, 1006 Penn Ave., La Wed-Fri 12-5 pm & Sat 10am-2pm THE ARTS AROUND EASTERN OREGON ACE offers kits for all ages, skill levels and budgets www.artcentereast.org Grande, and ask about the kits in the Gift Gallery.
