OHN DAY — We all know
2020 was a long year.
It was a quiet one, too, in John
Day, without the crunching fend-
ers and screaming spectators of
the annual Whiskey Gulch Gang
Demolition Derby.
Rejoice, fans, the derby is
back!
Once again, exhaust pipes
will be busting, mud fl ying and oil
leaking on Saturday, July 24, at
the John Day Auto Parts Arena
at the Grant County Fairgrounds.
Gates open at 6 p.m., with the
action set to start roaring at
7 p.m.
This will be the 31st year for
the family-friendly event, which
draws participants and bystand-
ers from well outside Grant
County.
The derby car entry fee is
$50 for one driver and pit crew
member; additional pit passes
are $30. Car inspections will be
at 3 p.m.
Those who crash will be vy-
ing for cash. Top money awards
include $2,000 for fi rst place,
$1,000 for second, $500 for
third, and several prizes in other
categories.
Admission is $12 for adults,
$10 for ages 7-12, and children 6
and younger get in free. Presale
tickets are $2 less and available
at Les Schwab, Ace Hardware
and Tru Value Hardware, all in
John Day, as well as at the fair
offi ce, 411 NW. Bridge St.
