Four Rivers
By Corey Kirk
ckirk@bakercityherald.com
Baker didn’t win any matches against Four Rivers
Charter School in Ontario on Thursday, April 29, but
Baker coach Amy Younger was pleased with the Bull-
dogs’ performance.
Younger said Sarah Plummer played a strong match
against Four Rivers’ Erin Hawker despite losing 6-1,
6-4.
“It was a great game, there were a lot of rallies, much
improvement from the last meeting,” Younger said.
She also mentioned the boys doubles team of Davis
Macias and Austin Hays, who lost 6-4, 6-4 to Keegan
Maupin and Koda Alvarez.
“It was a great improvement from the last meeting,
there were great rallies and both teams worked hard
for each game,” Younger said.
Baker returns to the Ash Grove courts Monday, May
3 to take on Ontario starting around 4 p.m.
NFL DRAFT FIRST ROUND
Ducks’ Sewell
7th overall pick
By Larry Lage
AP Sports Writer
Penei Sewell can recall sleeping with family members
on the fl oor in a shack in American Samoa, hoping his
life would lead him to the NFL.
Sewell is now living his dream.
“Now look at us,” Sewell said after the Detroit Lions
selected him with the No. 7 pick in the NFL draft Thurs-
day night. “I’m in a position to really change my family
dynamic and also to play at the level I wanted to play my
whole life.”
Detroit seemed to make a safe and solid pick by taking
the Oregon offensive tackle, making its line a potential
strength. The 20-year-old Sewell will likely start at right
tackle to bolster a group that includes standout left tack-
le Taylor Decker and Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow.
“To be a part of that room and be able to join them,
that’s a blessing,” he said. “That’s a lot of knowledge in
that room. I’m going to soak it all up and be a sponge.”
The 6-foot-5, 331-pound Sewell did not play last
season after starting his fi rst two years at Oregon, opting
out of last year’s Pac-12 season that was delayed because
of the pandemic. As a sophomore, he won the Outland
Trophy, honoring the nation’s best interior lineman, and
the AP Pac-12 Co-Offensive Player of the Year award.
