2 Thursday, February 25, 2021 GO! magazine — A&E in Northeast Oregon ‘Motherhood’ ■ Josephy Center’s new show celebrates moms By Lisa Britton For the EO Media Group JOSEPH — In a nod to moms everywhere, the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture opens it’s new exhibit “Motherhood” on Friday, Feb. 26. “2020 has been a tough year for women,” stated a center press release. “COVID-19 school closures sent women back home to care for children, act as teacher and mother all while trying to work to keep families together. The theme also celebrates, honors and delves into some of the complexities of mother- hood.” For the last seven years, the Josephy Center has put out a call for women’s artwork for a show. “It’s always been for women, and women’s art,” said Megan Wolfe, Josephy program coor- dinator. This year’s show was open to anyone as long as the subject fi t the theme of “Motherhood.” Curator Aimee Jung- mann selected 33 pieces to display from works submitted by 24 artists. The show includes photography, paintings, poems and sculptures. There will not be an opening reception due to COVID-19 restric- tions. However, Josephy’s gallery, at 403 N. Main St., Joseph, is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. The artwork also can be viewed online — and is for sale — at www.josephy.org. “Folks are welcome to come in or experience it on our website,” Wolfe said. Jungmann will choose one piece to receive a Curator’s Award. A People’s Choice prize will also be awarded. Each award-winning work will receive $50. “Motherhood” will be on display through April 6. The Josephy Center hosts Brown Bag discussions on most Tuesdays at noon, and Wolfe said several upcoming talks will revolve around the theme of the show. “Sometimes we talk with artists or the curator,” she said. For the time being, the gather- ings are virtual. Check Josephy’s website for more details. Contributed Photos The “Motherhood” exhibit includes photography, paintings, poems and sculptures. The show runs Feb. 26 to April 6 and can be viewed in person at the Josephy Center or at www.josephy.org. Be safe, wear masks, stay distanced: we will get through this. Thank you.
