Working with an early 17-0
advantage, the Bills’ defense
went into attack mode and
rattled Wilson, who was
sacked fi ve times, threw two
interceptions and lost two
fumbles.
“What I will tell you is I
don’t recognize that game. We
haven’t seen us look like that,
and it’s a game that I don’t
have any place in my brain
for it,” said Seahawks coach
Pete Carroll, who confi rmed
after the game that he has
signed a multiyear contract
extension. “We just don’t turn
the ball over like that, but we
did today and they capitalized
on all of it and just made us
pay.”
Wilson fi nished 28 of 41 for
390 yards with two touch-
downs, but has seven turn-
overs in the past three games.
He threw a season-worst
three interceptions in a 37-34
overtime loss to Arizona two
weeks ago.
The turnovers weren’t
the only problem. Seattle
became the NFL’s sixth team
to score 25 or more points in
each of its fi rst eight games,
but the defense surrendered
420 yards — the fi fth time
this season an opponent has
topped 400 yards.
The 44 points allowed
were the most in Carroll’s 11
seasons in Seattle and the
most for the franchise since
a 48-10 loss at Green Bay on
Dec. 27, 2009. It was just the
eighth time since Week 9 of
the 2011 season the Carroll-
led Seahawks have lost by 10
points or more.
“We just got to be cleaner,”
Wilson said. “We scored 34
points. We’re a pretty good
offense. But I think that we
can be better.”
Though Buffalo never
trailed, the game was decided
in the opening minutes of
the fourth quarter, when the
Bills scored touchdowns over
a span of 2:49 to open a 41-20
lead. Zack Moss scored on a
1-yard run, one play after Al-
len converted a third-and-16
by hitting John Brown on a
33-yard catch-and-run.

Timbers played to a 1-1 draw
against LAFC on Sunday as
both teams wrapped up the
regular season bound for the
playoffs.
LAFC’s Diego Rossi claimed
the league’s Golden Boot with
14 goals in the coronavirus-
shortened season. He had a
chance to up his fi nal total
against the Timbers, but he
hit the post twice.
LAFC (9-8-5) fi nished
seventh in the Western
Conference standings and will
visit Minnesota United in the
opening round of the playoffs.
The Timbers (11-6-6) fi n-
ished third and will host FC
Dallas. The Timbers headed
into Decision Day vying
for the top spot in the West
with the Seattle Sounders
and Sporting Kansas City.
Portland was atop the table
but dropped with a 1-0 loss to
Colorado on Wednesday.
Carlos Vela made his fi rst
start since Aug. 22 and scored
on a rebound goal.

BOISE — BYU hasn’t had many chances this season
to prove that it’s deserving of its lofty No. 9 ranking. On
Friday night, the Cougars took full advantage of their
fi rst game against a ranked team.
And it was nothing short of impressive.
Zach Wilson threw for 359 yards and two touchdowns
and Tyler Allgeier rushed for 123 yards and a pair of
scores as BYU routed No. 21 Boise State 51-17.
BYU (8-0), which beat Boise State on the road for the
fi rst time in six tries, is off to its best start since 2001
when the Cougars started 12-0. It’s also the fi rst time
in school history that BYU has scored 50 points or more
against a ranked opponent.
Wilson, who originally committed to Boise State
before signing with BYU, completed 21-of-27 passes and
threw TDs of 5 and 20 yards. He also found the end zone
on a 4-yard run.
The projected fi rst-round NFL draft pick said he
doesn’t begrudge anyone for questioning how good of a
team BYU is during these unprecedented times.
“People still doubted us, but I don’t blame them for
that,” Wilson said. “It’s hard to tell how good we are with
how our season has switched up, but each week is an
opportunity for us to prove ourselves. (This win) doesn’t
mean anything unless we keep winning.”
Meanwhile, Boise State (2-1) suffered its worst loss
since a 64-19 rout by rival Idaho in 1996.
