How many days until
BAKER CITY — The holidays
may be more than a couple months
away, but Crossroads Carnegie Art
Center is calling all artists and de-
signers to enter work in the annual
“Christmas at Crossroads — The
Gift of Art” show and Ornament
Expo.
Submissions can be fi ne art and
fi ne crafts (including clay, fi ber,
glass, wood, metal and mixed
media), jewelry, small sculptural
pieces, high-quality local hand-
crafted gifts, holiday cards and
original tree ornaments.
The center suggests artwork
that is priced in the range of $20 to
$100.
“This is a great opportunity to
sell your artwork to a wider audi-
ence seeking unique locally created
artwork to purchase as gifts. It is
a popular and memorable way to
bring festivity to the holiday,” said
Crystal Rainwater, community art
director.
Artwork priced higher will be ac-
cepted, but she said past ornament
shows prove that pieces priced at
$100 or less sell the best.
Submissions
Artwork will be accepted from
Oct. 19 to Dec. 1 during Crossroads’
hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday
through Saturday.
There is no entry fees and all
items must be available for sale.
There is a 30% commission for
Crossroads member artists and a
40% commission for non-members.
Additional submissions as space
becomes available will be accepted
through Dec. 14. It is the artist’s
responsibility to check inventory
throughout the month as work
sells and space opens up.
Receptions
The First Friday Ornament Expo
will be held Nov. 6, and the First
Friday reception for “The Gift of
Art” will be Dec. 4. Each runs from
Christmas at Crossroads
and the Ornament Expo
What: Artists can submit works
for these holiday shows between
Oct. 19 and Dec. 1
Where: Crossroads Carnegie Art
Center, 2020 Auburn, Baker City
10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the art center,
2020 Auburn Ave., Baker City.
The shows close Dec. 24. Artists
may pick up unsold artwork on
Dec. 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Entry criteria
Christmas at Crossroads and the
Ornament Expo are both open to
professional and amateur artists
age 18 and older.
Paintings must be dry and ap-
propriately presented, mounted or
framed, ready to hang with D-rings
and wire attached. No sawtooth
hangers will be accepted. Orna-
ments need to have an appropriate
hanging device.
Cards and reproductions (prints)
should be covered individually in
protective sleeves. Reproduction
prints may also be quality framed.
Ornaments and other small
items will need a tag of at least
one inch to include the name of the
artist and the price plus extra room
for Crossroads inventory.
Work submitted must be of
original design and of high qual-
ity and for sale. Pieces that are
manufactured, imported, reproduc-
tions made from kits or under the
supervision of an instructor are not
eligible.
Work should to the best of artists’
knowledge not violate any copy-
right laws.
The Gallery Committee reserves
the right to refuse any artwork that
is inconsistent with the general
quality of the exhibit.

limit the number of pieces dis-
played per artist at one time.
‘New now’ considerations
Crossroads is expecting that due
to the pandemic this year there will
be less holiday travel and families
will choose smaller gifts that are
easily shipped. In light of this, they
suggest:
• Tree ornaments
• Cards (individual & packs)
• Original artwork
• Ceramic mugs and bowls, etc.
• Jewelry
• Handmade items such as hats,
scarves, gloves, soap, candles
• Stocking stuffers
Seeking teaching artists
Crossroads staff is seeking art-
ists to teach holiday-themed virtual
or small, in-person classes as 2020
draws to and end.
These could include making
wreaths or cards, or other ideas for
creative classes that would work
well with social distancing.

Class proposals and activities
for the holidays can begin anytime
before the holidays.
