To Jebron Jones:
n my 26 years as a second-
ary public-school teacher
and 7 years as a professor in the
school of education at Northwest
Nazarene University, I have never
observed an action that I felt com-
pelled to write such a letter as I am
sending you.
My husband and I attended the
Baker High School versus Fruit-
land High School basketball game
this evening. When the buzzer
sounded to end the first half of the
varsity game, players exited the
floor and immediately a horde of
Fruitland’s elementary and middle
school students, “wanna be basket-
ball stars” inundated the gym floor.
Your coach, Mr. Jebron Jones,
his team having lost the lead in the
last 2 minutes of the half, STILL
stopped, got down eye-level with
several students and shared some
dialogue and shooting pointers
before entering the locker room. I
could not hear what was said, but
the students were genuinely ex-
cited by the high 5s they received
from Mr. Jebron Jones. Mr. Jones
demonstrated this same action
when he returned to the court to
begin the second half of the game.
Again taking time and making
connections with young students.
The Baker Bulldogs lost the game;
however, several young individu-
als from Fruitland were encour-
aged and validated by your coach’s
actions.
I belive that kindness and
encouragement in words create
confidence. Kindness and en-
couragement in thinking creates

Family Night at Brooklyn
y family has attended
every Family Night held
at Brooklyn Primary this year, and
it’s become one of our favorite
parts of the month. Not only do I
not have to worry about dinner that
night, it is fun to visit with other
parents in a relaxed atmosphere.
Angela Lattin and the crew who
organize these nights are doing an
awesome job. Watch the Brooklyn
newsletters and Facebook page for
updates and come join us!

To Annetta Evans:
would like to give a shout-out
of gratitude to Annetta Evans
for all she does to support the stu-
dents at Eagle Cap. Annetta meets
our students everyday “where they
are at,” be it ready for algebra,
ready for language arts, in need of
a homemade snack, or just a chat
with someone who cares. Annetta
Evans is a model for the concept of
student-centered pedagogy and a
great teacher-leader.
Further, as Eagle Cap under-
goes systemic change, Annetta
has taken the lead in creating new
systems of student management
that I can hardly keep up with. An-
netta once said we should “Create
a school that fits the kids, rather
than trying to make the kids fit the
school.” With her leadership, we
might well be on our way. Thank
you, Mrs. Evans, for all you do!

profoundness, and kindness and
encouragement in giving can cre-
ate change.
The measure of a true coach is
not his/her win-loss ratio, but one’s
commitment and passion to build
optimism, hope and validation of
an individual’s uniqueness and
self-worth. Your coach did this
tonight and I felt it important that
Baker School District administra-
tion be made aware.

Thanks, maintenance!
would like to give a shout out
to the maintenance department
for their hard work over Christmas
break creating a separate space for
our staff. And their continued work
to help with making it look like
a room. It’s nice to finally have a
separate space. I know he probably
doesn’t read this, but I owe you,
Mr. Dunn!
