BAKER BOYS BASKETBALL
Bulldogs 4th at Sisters tourney

Baker rebounded from a
fi rst-round loss to win two
straight games and claim 4th
place at the Sisters Holiday
Tournament this weekend.
The Bulldogs held off Cot-
tage Grove 60-57 on Sunday
afternoon in the 4th-place
game.
Baker coach Jebron Jones
said the Bulldogs played their
best half of the season —
particularly on offense — in
the fi rst half against Cottage
Grove.
Baker scored 22 points in
the fi rst quarter and led 38-
26 at halftime.
Gabe Gambleton scored 20
of his game-high 22 points in
the fi rst half, including four
three-pointers.
“We shared the ball
tremendously, which led to
open looks,” Jones said. “We
got a lot of easy shots, and we
didn’t force any shots. The
kids were really excited. They
didn’t care who scored, as
long as we were scoring.”
Jones said he’s seen glimps-
es of his team’s offensive
effi ciency in other games.
“I feel like we’re close to be-
ing a good, consistent team,”
he said.
Cottage Grove rallied in
the second half but Baker
held on for the win.
Baker (6-5 on the season)
opened the tournament
Friday with a 44-37 loss to
Henley of Klamath Falls.
Gambleton led Baker with
22 points, but he was the only
Bulldog in double fi gures.
The Bulldogs beat Maza-
ma, also from Klamath Falls,
48-38 on Saturday.
Baker had much better bal-
ance on offense. Caden Long
led three Bulldogs in double
fi gures with a game-high 19
points. Gambleton added 11,
and Riley Flanagan had 10.
After traveling to tourna-
ments the previous three
weekends, Baker returns
SEATTLE — Richard Sherman once again wore the
hat of a division champion as he walked out of the locker
room in Seattle.
Except this time there was a San Francisco logo
beneath the words “NFC West champions.”
“It’s a great feeling. It’s a great feeling to get the one
seed, to be NFC West champions,” Sherman said.
The road to the Super Bowl in the NFC will go
through San Francisco for the fi rst time since 1997 — by
a matter of inches — after the 49ers beat the Seattle
Seahawks 26-21 on Sunday night to clinch the NFC
West title.
Seattle took possession at its own 27 with 2:27 left
down by fi ve. Russell Wilson drove the Seahawks deep
into San Francisco territory and on fourth-and-10, Wil-
son hit John Ursua for 11 yards to the 1. Wilson spiked
the ball, but Seattle was called for delay of game on
second down. Backed up to the 6, Wilson was incomplete
on two straight passes. On fourth-and-goal, Hollister
caught a pass underneath but was immediately knocked
down by Greenlaw with less than 10 seconds remaining.
Replay confi rmed Hollister hit the ground before the ball
reached the goal line.

Beavers improve to 10-2
CORVALLIS (AP) — Oregon State’s Ethan
Thompson isn’t usually the Beavers’ leading
scorer.
But he delivered a career-high 25 points
in an 83-66 victory over North Dakota on
Sunday.
Thompson scored 11 points in the fi rst half,
including three 3-pointers, helping the Bea-
vers (10-2) take a 36-28 lead at the break.
He added 14 points in the second half and

PORTLAND (AP) — Kyle
Kuzma’s season may have
turned a corner on Saturday
night, and the Los Angeles
Lakers snapped their season-
long four-game losing streak
in the process.
Kuzma scored 24 points,
LeBron James had 21 points
and 16 assists, and the Lak-
ers beat the Portland Trail
Blazers 128-120.
Kuzma highlighted a
strong performance by
the Lakers’ reserves, who
provided 72 bench points.
Portland’s bench scored 39
points.
Damian Lillard had a
game-high 31 points for
Portland, which dropped
its third straight. Hassan
Whiteside had 19 points and
16 rebounds.
The game was a high-scor-
ing affair. Both teams scored
over 30 points and shot over
50% from the fi eld in the fi rst
quarter as the Lakers built a
two-point lead.
contributed a game-high eight assists.
“I think I have a pretty well-rounded
game,” said Thompson, a 6-foot-5 junior
guard. “I don’t try to score a certain amount of
points or anything like that. Just let the game
come to me, try and take as many good looks
as I can.”
North Dakota (6-8) cut the lead to 52-47 on
two free throws from Marion Stewart with
13:08 remaining, but would get no closer.
