Badgers roll over Enterprise,

LA GRANDE — The
Powder Valley Badgers scored
the game’s fi rst 34 points and
coasted to a 60-28 victory over
the Enterprise Outlaws in the
opening game of the Special
District 3 playoffs Friday at
Eastern Oregon University.
The win improved Powder’s
record to 6-3 and solidifi ed
its OSAA ranking as the
Badgers later grabbed one of
four at-large berths to state.
It’s the Badgers’ fi rst playoff
berth since 2016, when they
reached the state quarterfi -
nals.
“It’s a huge step for us,”
head coach Josh Cobb said.
“We’re young. We’re sopho-
more-heavy, so getting these
guys some playoff experience
is going to be huge for the
long run.”
Reece Dixon threw for 463
yards and six touchdown
passes for the Badgers on
Friday, including a 72-yard
scoring strike to Kaden
Krieger and a 6-yard pass
to Dominick Grende to help
Powder Valley’s lead reach
28-0 after one quarter.

Another long touchdown
pass — this one of 74 yards
from Dixon to Ethan Ste-
phens — made it 34-0 before
the Outlaws fi nally got on the
board. Gideon Gray scored
from 2 yards out, and a safety
just before the half brought
Enterprise within 34-8.
But four second half scores
— the last of which was a
54-yard touchdown catch by
Roper Bingham — made it
60-8 with 3:03 to play in the
third quarter.
Grende and Bingham fi n-
ished with 188 and 116 yards
receiving, respectively.
The Outlaws added three
fourth-quarter scores on a
9-yard run by Jericho Peters,
a 25-yard rush by Trace
Evans and a 40-yard TD
reception by Evans for the
fi nal margin.
The Badgers, who have
won their last three games,
ended up as the No. 12 seed
and will travel to face Lowell
in the fi rst round of the state
playoffs Friday at 6 p.m.
Lowell is about 20 miles east
of Eugene.
Seahawks slip past Tampa Bay in OT

SEATTLE — After leading a master-
ful drive in the fi nal seconds of regula-
tion only to see a potential winning fi eld
goal attempt on the last play sail wide,
Russell Wilson took it upon himself in
overtime.
No way was Tampa Bay’s Jameis
Winston going to end up with the ball in
his hands again.
Wilson fi nished off one of the fi n-
est games of his career with a 10-yard
touchdown pass to Jacob Hollister on
the opening drive of overtime, capping
Seattle’s rally for a 40-34 win over the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
Wilson continued his brilliant season,
tying his career high with fi ve touch-
down passes as Seattle (7-2) overcame
Jason Myers’ missed 40-yard fi eld-goal
attempt on the fi nal play of regulation
and never gave Tampa Bay a chance in
the extra session.
HERE’S HOW TO PLAY:
LA GRANDE — The Eastern Oregon football team
gave Frontier Conference-leading and sixth-ranked
College of Idaho all it could handle, and gave itself a
shot at the upset.
The Mountaineers led 14-7 at halftime, were tied
14-14 after three quarters and had a chance, trailing
by seven in the fi nal minute of the game — a marked
improvement from the season-opening 48-12 loss to
the same Coyotes.
“That was a dog fi ght. We went a little bit dim in the
third quarter offensively. We got a lot of kids playing
out there who are freshmen, sophomores and juniors,”
head coach Tim Camp said of his team against the
senior-laden Yotes. “Pretty proud of them.”
But third-quarter offensive struggles and a strong
second-half by C of I offensively were enough to allow
the Yotes to escape with a 24-17 victory Saturday at
Community Stadium.
It was the third time in three weeks EOU has been
within a touchdown of its opponent in the fourth quar-
ter. Eastern has lost those three contests by six, 13 and
now seven points.
The Mountaineers were the aggressors early and
often against C of I. EOU scored on its second pos-
session on a 1-yard touchdown run by Victor Dias for
a 7-0 lead midway through the fi rst quarter, while
defensively the Mountaineers held C of I powerful of-
fense in check. C of I was forced to punt on its fi rst four
possessions, and went three-and-out three times.
The Yotes pulled even late in the second quarter
when Nick Calzaretta scored from a yard out to cap a
14-play, 90-yard drive that took seven minutes.
It took Eastern 11 seconds to respond, as Kai Quinn
hit Cade Reed for a 95-yard touchdown pass right in
the middle of the C of I defense to give EOU the lead
at the half.
College of Idaho pulled even early in the third quar-
ter on the ground, as Calzaretta scored from 21 yards
out to cap a drive that saw him rush for 54 yards.
Another long drive by C of I — this one an 86-yard
excursion that took more than nine minutes — ended
in a Kyle Mitchell fi eld goal for a 17-14 lead early in
the fourth quarter.
Hunter Jaurez then hauled in a one-handed catch
for a 30-yard score and a 10-point lead with 11:11 to
play.
But the Mountaineersfi nally woke up on offense
to get back in the game late. A 64-yard drive set up a
32-yard Jaiden Machuca fi eld goal to make it a one-
possession game with 2:30 to play.
Eastern failed to recover the ensuing onside kick,
but stopped C of I to regain possession with 44 seconds
to play. Quinn found Victor Dias for a 20-yard comple-
tion one play after being sacked, but Eastern’s Hail
Mary pass on the fi nal play fell incomplete.
