THK EXHIBIT BUILDING
Law was fixing up bis books
An exhibit building is now a cer morning to turn them over to
tainty, following the official grant Smith, whom he was making
ing ot a plot «f ground far the pur quainted with the duties of the of
pose by tbs Souther* Pacific. The fice.
need of such a building has long
been recognized, in an endeavor to
get tourist* and others interested ia
the great variety el produce which
can be grown saccessfuUy in this
comity. The plans and the plot
are now ready. All that is needed
is the undivided efforts ot the people
of the locality and it will go over.
The railroad company was unwil
ling at first to grant tbs land as
several other such build nigs had
l?een failures in other sections, The
building wouM be a failure if it de-
pended only on the railroad traffic.
Here, bowever, it will draw mainly
from the auto traffic, for which it
is intended mainly- It wUl be in
the heart of the business district
where it will be easy of access to
the visitor. The building will do
much in the interesting of prospec
tive settlers in this section.
It is estimated that $2 Of every
suit of clothes bought pays for pow-
er used in the manufacture of it.
Motor experts estimate that 800,-
000,000 barrel* of oil will be needed
in 1925 by autoists.

Want Delay ia Parking—
The Jackson County Merchants as
sociation at a called meeting last
Bight adopted the constitution and
by-laws read at a recent meeting.
The association also discussed the
new
traffic ordinance recently
passed by the city council and which
goes into effect Friday if not post
poned. A request for the council
to put a time limit on parking in
the business districts from 8 a. m.
to 5 p. m. was passed with a re
quest that the date of the recent or
dinance going into effect be defer
red until the time limit can be thor
oughly considered.—Medford

Fishing Season Soon Ope
The commercial fishing season
will open on the upper Rogue, or in
that suction between the steel bridge
and Hell’s Gate on Sunday morning
at 6 o’clock. Due to the fact that
commercial fishing is prohibited on
Sunday, the fishermen will not start
on their first drift until midnight
that night.
A meeting of the fish
ermen was held Tuesday night by as
a small numlter were present it was
impossible to transact much bus
iness. No arrangements were made
as to the price which the fish will
bring. About six boats will make
tha first drift. A few fish are in the
river but the fishermen are
greatly enthusiastic over the
look.

J. \\ . Walker Returns—
J. W. Walkvi, who has purchased
the planing mill east ot the city, has
returned to Grants Pass to start
work on the enterprise. With hitu
are Mrs Walker and their two chil
dren. Onida and Douglas. Consider
able discussion was raised in the|
city by the promiscuous spreading ot
the rumor that Mr. Walker had
brought back 16 negro families to
work in the mill. The truth of the
matter is that Mr. Walker brought
two negroes, a married couple, who
will act in the capacity ot family
servants. The man is to care for
the car and the work around the
yard while the woman is to do the
housework for Mrs. Walker. A third
negro came out but is not connected
with the Walker planing mill. Mr.
Walker expects to hire local labor as
much as possible in the running of
his plant. The negroes in question
have been with the Walker family
for 18 years and will remain here
with them
