VALLEY PROGRESS INFECTIOUS
The progress of development with
in the Grants Pass Irrigation District
is infectious. The residents of that
section along the Pacific highway to
the north have seen what is happen
ing and want to comp tn for the pros
perity which is sure to follow. A new
development company has been form
ed tor the purpose of irrigating a
large tract of land which is now in
orchard but which needs the water
before it reaches a high stage of pro
duction.
When the district north of town is
developed it will form one of the
beauty spots of the valley for there
are hundreds of acres of practically
level land which awaits only water
before it will become highly produc
tive. The scheme now under way has
been considered for years and is the
culmination of years of hard work.
It is to be sincerely hoped that the
works progresses as it is expected
for it will bring additional acreage
into production and will furnish at-
tractive home sites for the people
who are now looking to the Rogue
River valley as a future home.
Portland, Ore., Jan. 26.—(A. P.)
—Indignant over statements by
Governor Pierce in a speech at their
annual banquet last night, the dis
trict attorneys of Oregon, in con
vention today, declared that they
were ready to fight the executive to
a finish and would retuse to cooper
ate with him until he show» a
change of heart as regards respon
sibility tor the enforcement of prohi
bition laws. The charge was made
upon the floor that the governor had
repudiated an agreement made with
the district attorneys through his
private secretary, at a conference in
Portland on Thursday. The attor
neys said the' governor's representa
tive tacitly agreed that hereafter he
would notify the district attorneys
in advance when he planned to send
special prosecutors or investigators
into the counties and would give
them 10 days in which to state the
case before taking any action.
