To supply local pc • i and to am mo
torists here in solving local road and
motoring problems will hr- a trading
purpose of th* branch office of the
Ore ’in State Motor ureeiation to be
established here in the near future,
according to Fred DeElliott, executive
field lectctary of the state motor
body, with headquarters in Portland.
Mr. DoE'iiott, who la now on a tour
of the state in the interests of a
purposed expanseon of the association
to make it larger and belter than
ever before, Is spending a few days
in thia city conferring with members
of the Commercial club and road
boasters generally.
‘‘The motorists comprise a great
share of the population of the state,’’
cxp'ained DeElliott, “a share whose
beliefs unit needs must be taken into
consideration. In legislative matters
the association has always endeavored
to represent the motorist and to sea
that he is given a fair and square deal,
at the same time upholding at all
times the road-building programme,
which has been the greatest develop
ment feature of the state during the
past decade.
"We have taken up the cudgel
ugainst inimical legislation, both state
wide and local, many times and will
gladly work with local motorists along
these lines here. Unfair methods of
officer« in carrying out the motor
vehicle laws, such ns establishment of
speed traps, are looked upon by our
organization as not only a hardship
to the motorist, but as a detriment to
the conununity, giving it a black eye.
We want the motorists of thia section
to know we are with you in fighting
things of this kind, at the same time
standing squarely for honest law-
enforcement.
"The association has done valuable
work in many parts of the state in
marking roads, frequently working
with the state highway department in
this regard, and rtands ready to aid
in such a movement in this locality if
your roads are in need of marking.
Frequently the main roads are well
marked, but other routes entirely un
marked. This is a co nd. t ion which
should be remedied and the Oregon
State Motor association, through its
local branch, will stand ready to do
its share, and in fact to go ahead in
an active way, with the co-operation
and approval of civic organizations
here.”
"I’ll say it again
it’s the
best cigarette
I ever smoked!”
