ing quantity la not true, and arose
from the fact that there Is a splen­
did showing to indicate that oil may
be • truck In commercial quantity
This has been known tor some time,
but yesterday afternoon the bailer
during the process of drilling out the
under reamings brought up and dis­
charged thtek crude oil in Increased
quantities. Several pint bottle» of
the oil were skimmed off and brought
to .Medford by several persons, where
they have been attracting consider­
able Interest. The work of cleaning
out the hole of the 50 remaining
feet of tailinge at its bottom It was
expected, would be completed In the

Von Hartz Funeral .Sunday—
The funeral qf William Von Hartz,
who died Wednesday, will be held
from the Hall undertaking parlors
Sunday, at 2:30 o'clock, interment
at the Granite Hill cemetery. The
Rev. O. J. Law will conduct the ser-
vice. William Von Hartz has lived
on the Crescent City road, about four
miles from this city since coming to
Grants Pass two years ago. He was
born in Diepolz. Hanover. Germany,
September 30. 1857, and Is survived
by a wife. Mrs. Lillie Von Hartz, a
son, Edgar, and a daughter, Mrs.
