Grants Pass is to have another ex-;
elusive shoe store, according to the
statement ot O. A. Colby, who is on
the ground and has leased a portion
of the old Grants Pass Hardware
company store room. A partition will
be put through the middle of the
50x100 room, making two 25-foot
fronts, and Mr. Colby will have the
south room
The Grants Pass store will be one
of a chain of stores operated by the
Brown Shoe Company of St. Ix>uis.
Mr. Colby spent two weeks in South­
ern Oregon a short time ago and
also made thorough inquiry into the
condition ot Grants Pass and the bus­
iness possibilities and decided upon
Grants Pass as the most favorable
for business opportunities.
Mr. Colby is accompanied by one
son, Paul. Mrs. Colby and the other
son will arrive later. Mrs. Colby is
a singer and vocal instructor, and
the two young men are bandsmen.

sion of the Florida supreme court.
The case came up through a hus­
band meeting his wife riding alone
with another man He attacked the
man. and as a result of the fight
that ensued his wife’s companion was
convicted of assault with Intent to
murder
The state supreme court
reversed the lower tribunal.
“There may have "been a time
when a wife was regarded as her
husband's chattel and being out alone
on a public road with another man
regarded as sufficient provocation to
Justify the husband in making an
assault upon her companion, but this
is no longer true, when women en­
joy equal freedom with men,’’ said
the opinion read by Chief Justice
Brown.
