OREGON TIMMONS FOB MAYOR To the voter» of Grants Pass: As I have become a candidate for the office of Mayor 1 believe that it Is sd usable to. In a measure, ac quaint the voters of my plans and In tentions if elected to that office. With irrigation the territory sur rounding the City is and will con tinue to rapidly develop into a won derfully rich valley of well kept farms and homes. ' The City must — “ — “ it l' wake up or we will soon find ’ ** that is a brown, barren, unsightly apot surrounded by beautiful green fields and well kept yards and homea. For many years the t'ity as well as the citiaene have been paying exor bitant rates for water and 1 believe the time has come when we should seek some relief I hate in mind a plan, which space will not permit me to detail whereby the city can ad vantageously acquire its own water and lighting systems just at the be- ginning of a prosperous development and growth of our CM.' and county. I Paid tdvertlaement I (1) . To prevent children in whose homei» there is smallpox, diptheria, infantile paralysis, meningi tis, or other “contagious” diseases, from attending school and INFECTING \ OUR CHILDREN. (2) . To prevent people who do not believe in contagion or quarantine to constantly expose you, your wife and your family to smallpox and other diseases, by eliminating the authority of the HEALTH OFFICERS to protect you, The real purpose of the amendment is not to »ini ply forbid compulsory vaccination and to make it a matter of choice for parents or guardians as to whether or not a child should be vaccinated. Such provision already exists in the statutes. Its real purpose is to stop all medical examination of children in the public schools, and examinations tor public office. It means that if there is a contagious disease among the members of the family of ii school child THERE WILL BE NO LAW IN THUS STATE which could keep that child from attending school and submitting other children to the dangers of the infection. -•»». It means that Till» STATE opens itself wide to the danger of the spread of any form of epidemic that may break out. The former provision of ouarantin- ing families in which there is a contagious disease, or excluding children who have had a contagious di sease and may still lie able to transmit it, is practcial- ly done away with. The New York Times Says: “It would make in fection and contagion constitutional, upset all health regulations, protect disease and the communication of disease, encourage and disseminate disease, dis courage and prevent health, There are some rare re formers in Oregon, but a oueerer specimen of their pernicious activity has seldom been ottered to that long suffering and much-voting state.” NO PERSON IS FREE TO IMPOSE II IS PERSONAL OPINION IF IT ENDANGERS THE HEALTH OF I HE PUBLIC.
