This mushroom party is usually conceiv- ed in the minds of disappointed poli ticians who grasp at the fancies and foibles of a number of isms, always more or less radical, and attempt through them to build up a new or ganization, That is the status of the present attempt to construct a new party by the committee of 48 Behind it BOW meeting at Chicago. are the supporters of the non-par- tisan poison, the dangerous single tax element, and other political fan elee of the same Ilk used by the dis gruntled lA.Folettes to further their own purposes, and it seems probable that LaFollette will head the new party as Its nominee for the presi dency It is well that the people understand fully and now just what thia new party of the radicals and the disgruntled stands for. Here Is the statement issued by the chair man of the committee of 48. It •hows the heart of the movement to be single tax and the non-partisan league: "It is our hope that labor, incltid- ing farmers and other divisions of the laboring classes, will find in the new party's platform a common sense ideal which they can support, whole-heartedly at the polls,” said J. A. H. Hopkins, chairman of the com mittee of 48, who has had charge of j the organization work which resulted t In the calling of the convention. "The full success of what we are trying to accomplish would include our getting the support of organized labor, sympathizers of the single tax, the non-partlsan.league and the bulk of the Independent voters of the country who are dissatisfied with the •vasion of responsibility which the republican and democratic parties have revealed In their platforms "Our delegates from every state in the union Include representatives of these parties, who see their op portunity to form a coiitiou strong enough to insure defeat for both old parties next November and the ele ■ tion of a president and vice presl dent chosen by the people themselves on a platform that undertakes noth ing but the courageous meeting ot Is sues which confront Ameri a today." RAISING SHEEP FOR MUTTON There Are Many Areas, Especially in Hilly Regions. Where Few Ani- mal« Could Be Kept Sheep are I not very generally kept on farms for t supplying the home fam lly with meat, There are many areas. especially in hilly or mountainous re gions. where nearlj every farm could keep a few mutton sheep to advan tage. says the I'nited States depart meat of agriculture.
