introduced at a local shoe factory in
an effort to increase efficiency. Sev­
eral ideas eliminating unnecessary
processes have been adopted
and
other suggestions aimed at time-sav­
ing are being tried out.
Some of the operatives, it is said,
did not take kindly to the experi­
ments and were "wondering dubious­
ly iwhat ithe next abtempt of the
management to obtain a short-cut to
production would be.

unexpected form and the employes
are now discussing the latest idea
over their pipes and their knitting
"on the company's time."
Their speculation over the next ef­
ficiency .plan was answered by the
following announcement: "Produc­
tion must Ibe increased.
Quality
must be Improved.
Beginning to­
morrow. operations will be suspend­
ed twice daily to allow operatives to
rest.”
During these periods, which begin
at 10 in the morning, and 3 in the
afternoon, the power of the (plant Is
shut off and the wheels are stopped
while the men smoke and the women
chat or knit. Then the whirr of the
machinery begins again and the
workers return to their task of mak­
ing shoes.

There was a fair attendance at
Pomona Saturday. A talk by Dean
Cord ley of the O. A. C. occupied the
larger part of the lecture hour.
Mrs. I. F. Williams, of Central
Point was a week end visitor at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Roper,
Mr. and Mrs. McCarthy and Miss
Dana, of Grants Pass, were Sunday
evening callers at the Jones home.
Dr. and Mrs. Elliott, of Medford,
and A. Bauer were dinner guests of

the Brletmayers Sunday.
They
brought Mr«. P. Slattery home with
them.
Mr. and Min. I-eonard Otis. friends
of the Droulettes. motored up from
California and »pent but a few days
looking for a location when
they
bough the Garber place of six acres
and house furnished, on Tenth street
and are now enjoying the fine cli­
mate of Southern Oregon in their
own home.
Mr. and Mrs. James Wright, Car­
lotta Wiseman and Carmelita Pool
were dinner guests at the Neilson
home Sunday.
Mrs. Roper and her mother, Mrs.
Williams went to Centra) Point with
the Elliotts Sunday evening.
Mrs.
Roj>er returned Monday morning.
